Show James Robertson Dead Funeral services were held at the city pavilion June 1st over the remains of James Robertson who died May 29 The congregation was very large and was called to order at 140 by Bishop Geo Hales of the Third ward The Invocation was offered by Wm Jex The choir was led by Ed M Howe with Mrs David Prior at the piano The first two speakers were Bishop Geo Hales and Charles Monk Miss Mary > Larsen and Miss Lcurctta Evans sang H beautiful duet entitled Hope Beyond with Miss Dorothy Stoddard at the piano The next speaker was John Moore after whom a solo was rendered by Lars W Nielsen Face to Face with Miss Mary Larsen at ho piano The next speaker was Dr 5co II Brimhall he was followed by Patriarch Geo W Wilkins The speakers speak-ers nil bore a faithful testimony to the life and character of the deceased James Robertson was born September Septem-ber 22nd 1827 in a small village called Slcnisla Forforahire Scotland lie was baptized into the Mormon Church Jan 25th 1848 by Elder Hugh Finlcy lie came to Utah in 1851 and married Matilda Graham who survives him He came to Spanish Fork in 1853 and took part in the Walker War of that year He is survived by a wife five laughers laugh-ers one son twentyfive grandehlHI en and twentyfour great grandchild ren For a number of years he was counsellor to Bishop A K Thurber lie has been a High Priest 46 years told during that time his faith never altered He was a good neighbor an honest man a loving father and a dutiful duti-ful husband Although he was not an orator he was a profound thinker He was not a poet yet he had a refined taste for the beautiful in poetry lie was a constant reader a wise councilor coun-cilor and a faithful Latterday Saint His bier was covered with beautiful lowers woven into quaint designs The pall bearers were Mitchell Beck Bruce Jones Arthur Johnson James Chestly Carl Olsen and Spencer Beck all rela tives but Olsen The writer has known Brother Robertson for 56 years G A HICKS |
