Show THE BUTTE SALT QUESTION. A ltcduclloii That Will Enable the IT1 Ills to Continue Operating. Tho Union Pacific has finally compromised compro-mised with tho Butte mill owners by making a reduction on the transportation of salt which will save to the Butte people peo-ple $8.50 per ton. The last contract made with the company involved a cost of $23.50 per ton delivered at the deiot at Butte, whilo by the present arrangement the salt wil! be laid down at the same point for $15. This may not appear a- matter of much importance im-portance to the public, but it really amounts to thousands of dollars monthly to the mill owners, and through them affects the "entire business relations of Butte and vicinity. Tho arrangement which has been accepted,it is understood, by all the leading operators, contained tho condition that all ores and bullion should be shipped over the Union Pacific road, and while this stricture was anything any-thing but acceptable to some of the parties par-ties concerned, all of them entered into the contract rather than close the works. |
