holiday of it last saturday in anticipation of the tourists AC S coming across the country from springs bunting and and a bis big str eamer was stretched across the street at t the post ollice office on which was painted in big letters Iv welcome elcome on thursday the business men ol of this city received official notice that the pikes peak ocean to ocean highway crowd which started at colorado springs and ends at salt pike lake city would Fould arrive arTive here at noon saturday 4 ail il remain for two hours y evening george bearde ed F ll Il armston ard and mr and mrs R S collett mr air and mrs sabey mrs C I 1 johnson and a few others whose names we were v ere unable to get went over to vernal to meet the delegation aps ops to lot let them know that roosevelt Roos ovelt would be glad to entertain the distinguished visitors an entertainment committee took charge of matters and tho the ladies bellet society had control of the banquet about 1230 the roosevelt baud band left here in autos tor for the county boundary line and the delegation was net met and given their first welcome to ao 10 the virbe visitors tore were escorted to the amusement hall the ladles of 0 the crowd were taken to the private homes of 0 the various citizens here and the men were given the glad hand of welcome becoming acquainted with our friendly people among them wore were from vernal mr and mrs john of 0 wasatch county he said they were not perfect boulevards but that they woud compare favorably with any roads in the state utah with its vast resources of minerals and farming lands in the near f liture future will be the greatest state in the union and good roads will do more toward accomplishing comp lishing this end than anything else its the most essential thing for a new country which will have a tendency to again make the desert bloom as a rose the auto tourists want more than good roads they want fishing hunting beautiful scenery the pikes peak ocean to ocean highway ahas has the scenery good hunting and trout in abundance in duchesne and wasatch coptic 9 mr air harvey is a very able speaker and held his audience spellbound spell bound mr J R edwards of colorado springs was then introduced he Is interested in the automobile blue I 1 book which lists all roads roada thru tha ill e aoun country try among other thing things s iia he said auto tourists tourists are looking for good roads that have beautiful scenery fishing and hunting and that he was convinced that the pikes peak ocean to ocean highway would be the main road traveled in the future for it had those valuable essentials dr cr it 11 beeman of jersey city wes was the next speaker introduced he praised the pikes peak road and said that he can truthfully say there 15 miles of bad roads between colorado springs and roosevelt and that when he returned to his homo home town he would certainly boost the pikes peak ocean to ocean trail dr F r 0 keyes of salt lake city had gone over the lincoln highway through wyoming and said it was very rough and there were stretches where the facilities and accommodations were very meager and la in the future would advise all auto tourists going across the continent to tale tabe the trail leading through roosevelt mayor chas E mckesson of colorado springs was the last but not the least of the speakers on behalf of the visitors he thanked the ladles ladies tor for tile the bounteous banquet it was a feast fit tor for the gods and that they would always have a warm spot in their heirs tor for the people of roosevelt this automobile trip would have the faculty ot of bringing the two sister states in closer relationship the uintah valley is the garden 04 0 eden in the making and is being mills made very fast I 1 can vouch tor for this road and I
