' t Miss Esther Briardy is visiting her sister, Mrs. Edward Kelley, of Ooldfield. There was a meeting of St. Agnes' Sodality in the chapel Sunday after-noon after-noon at 3 o'clock. Mrs. R. H. Blose entertained a few lady friends at a "daffodil luncheon" Saturday afternoon. A card party is to be given on the evening of the ISth by the C. R. and B. A. at Sodality hall to the members and invited friends of . the society. A musical musi-cal programme of two or three numbers num-bers will precede the games. The Knights of St. John have rscslved j their new uniforms and they are ex-j tre'mely '-swell," so the knights say. The ( following committee is making the necessary arrangements for the ball to be given. Easter Monday night: Captain Cap-tain J. J. Quinn. Messrs. J. B. Whalen, J. E. Foley and Andrew Whalen. Membership Mem-bership in this society is steadily increasing, in-creasing, four new members Jeing received re-ceived at the last meeting. At a meeting held Sunday afternoon. Feb. 11, the organization of the Society of Leadville Pioneers was completed. Over 600 " '79ers" have enrolled their names for membership. The treasurer announced the number of those who had paid the initiation fee to be R27. The following officers were elected: President, Fen G. Barker: .first vice president. John M.; Maxwell; second vice president. Ma jor A. V. Bohn; treasurer, treas-urer, Benjamin F. Stickley; secretary. Miss May Dale Thomas; marshal. Robert Rob-ert Telfer: historian, A. II. Brown; directors. di-rectors. W. W. Cablet L, Q. Hobbs and Mrs. Rosa Yowell. On Feb. S a sad accident occurred at the Mab mine. Thomas Broderick. a miner, was caught.: in a cave of bad! ground while at work, and received in- juries which resulted in his death. The i deceased was well and favorably known in Leadville, having resided here for the pat fourteen years. He was 35 years old and unmarried. The funeral took place from the Church of the Annunciation Annun-ciation Saturday morning. Father Saile officiated and spoke very touchingly of the many virtues-of the young man, especially of his practical Catholic life!' The knights of Robert Emmet, of which lodge he was a member, attended the funeral in a body. |
