Addresses were made by j the state pre?idente of New Jersey and j Montana, from which it appeared that Uhe suffrage cause is making satisfactory satisfac-tory progress. Canie E. Chapman Catt cf New York, who yesterday was elected pres-.dent of the association, read reports cf the committees com-mittees on the couree of study, head- quarters and organization. She said, in part: "Basing our judgment upon the re-pnr:.s re-pnr:.s cf states, we announce our belief that the organized condition of those states which we can rightfully call organized, or-ganized, id more hopeful and satisfactory satisfac-tory than ever before. "Many states have reported an increase in-crease in membership this year. There are working organizations in every state and territory except Xew Hampshire Hamp-shire and Florida. All in all. our association asso-ciation is showing signs cf greater ota-I ota-I bility, permanence and influence than ever before. The ohe of the year 1SD: found u.s completely out of debt." In the course of the morning session Miss Anthony stated she did root like to retire frem the presidency without a little money in the treasury. Contri- ' butions being called for, $S,021 was i pledged. A large number of beautiful gifts were presented to Miss Anthony, among them a silk gown, rugs for her home in Rochester, art embroideries, a silver vase, an album containing the photographs photo-graphs of the officers of the association associa-tion and something over $100 in cacsh from friends in California. |
