'" Class A water title is equivalent to the I primary Pioneer Water Rights. X The common units (or measurements of water for Irrigation purposes In the ' State of Utah aro the seeond-foot, the acre-foot and the miners Inch. A second- J foot of water is a stream discharging one cubic foot of water In one second of time. - An acre-foot is 43500 cuhlc feet of water, or an area of one acre covored with water - to tli-: uniform depth of one foot. A miners inch Is the continuous flow of water 4 through an opening of one square Inch In a standard orifice under a constant head. I -4- The head of water on the orifice varies with the locality from 3 tot inches, One 1 X second-foot equals 7 48-100 gallons per second, or two acre-.eet In 81 hours (approxl- T -4. mutely), or ioy, acre-feet in tSirty days, or SO California miners inches, or 38 4-10 I 4 Colorado miners inches, or about 300 acre-feet In one Irrigation season taking the -4 T season to be about live months, T - The duty of water is a variable quantity depending upon a multitude of condl- X "4 tlons such as temperature, kinds of soil, condition of the soil, kinds and varieties of -4 X crops r ilsed. etc., and cannot be exactly determined without experiments in the T t locality where the duty of water is wanted. In any case where the water supply for X irrigation is stored in a reservoir, the lmpei vlousness of the reservoir bottom, the 4 X form of the cross-section of the water in the reservoir, and the temperature of the T -4 at:uosphurc are the factors upon which depand the amount of water available for 4 J uso after certain length of time. There Is no known record of evaporation for this T X locality but probably the greatest evaporation In any year during the months of T July and August will not exceed seven inches per month and during the winter -4 J mouths perhaps not more than one-half to one inch per month, The loss of water in running from the storage reservoir to the land where it is to be used depends upon . -4 conditions of the channel carrying the water, such as length, imperviousness, cross 4 X sectlou of water, grade, temperature, etc, If, as is often the case, the channel that T conveys the water consists of a series of ponds. It stands to reason that such a Chan- X uel. natnralor artificial, Is not of the most economical kind for the purpose of con- X veylug wat-er. The courts seem to rule that one second foot of water is equivalent - to from 0 up to 150 or more acres of water which apparently Is ample. At 80 acres, X 4 and season I5n days, one second-foot equals 3J acre-feet. At !5U acres, and season X 150 days, one second-foot equ lis two acre-feet. From what has been done thus far t -e iii the lln f experiments in this locality, good erops.of wheat can be matured on 1 4 aooul 3 lo-loo acre-feet of water, OARL A.
