Show iRKS ELKS PROVEN TO TOBE BE GOOD Pencil Pushers Are Entertained at Dinner in the Evening r PROGRAM AT Y 1 M C A AMANY AMANY MANY GUESTS ENTERTAINED T THERE AND CLUB Good will and nd friendly cheer abounded within the walls ot of Salt Lake clubs yes yesterday yesterday and the Happy New ew Years ex exchanged exchanged changed between members and had the ring of hospitable sincerity that brought genuine enjoyment to hundreds of Salt Lake citizens The Elks kept open house all day winding up with a banquet In the evening at which the newspaper men of the city we were special guests The AHa club was an Eyeless Eden Inasmuch as the reconstruction of the building has made It necessary to close the dining room used for tor women and for family parties There was open house for the members ot of the club and their male friends though and a special New Years dinner was served In the evening At th the Y M II C A open house was observed lis s usual and hundreds of members and theIr friends w were re royally entertained during the afternoon and evening Last nights dinner at the Elks club was an annual affair at which the news newspaper newspaper paper men were the guests ot of the club at an elaborate spread in keeping with the hospitality of the Best People on onEarth onEarth Earth As usual at these affairs the annual excursion of the Elks and their friends to the Pacific coast was wal the chief topic for discussion As the plans were unfolded by A W V secretary James Collins exalted ruler A G Mackenzie leading knight and A J Davis the enthusiastic support ot of the newspaper men ot of the city was promised spontaneously Mr outlined the special tea fea features tures of the 1910 excursion which being the fifth annual affair ot of Its kind Is to tobe tobe be the first excursion to Los Angeles In midwinter The other special feature will be the side trip to the HawaIIan Islands and only yesterday word was re received received that the trip to Honolulu had been timed Umed so that the would arrivO just two days before the opening ot of the carnival at Honolulu Feb February February 22 That Elks Excursion Last year the Elks Eilts carried SOO n the excursion to Los Angeles and with the added aled attractions and the change In date datI from summer to winter It Is expected that fully 1000 wilt will avail themselves of the opportunity The Itinerary as au an announced flounced last night will be to leave Salt Lake at 11 on the night of February February ary 5 The first stop will be at San Ber Bernardino Bernardino nardino where the Elks of at that city will act as hosts taking the party to the principal points of Interest On that occa occasion occasion sion the Salt Lake lodge will present a beautiful loving cup to the San Bernar Bernardino dino lodge Short stops will be made at Pomona and Riverside and the schedule will be timed so that the Utah Invasion of Los Angeles will be early In the at af afternoon of February 7 There will be a around around round of pleasure and sightseeing in the vicinity of Los Angeles and many of the party will then go to San Francisco to take the steamer Alameda for Honolulu February 12 The trip to the H wallan Islands and return will take three Including one week at Honolulu but the i tickets will be good to th remain two weeks it If desired The dinner was a pronounced fraternal and gastronomical success and the new year was more than hours old before anyone thought of proposing a final toast to the success of the Elks Eks ex cx excursion before adjourning Only Remaining Question At the Y M 11 C A building festivIties began early In the afternoon and a corps of guides were on hand all day to show visitors through the building from top to bottom This was the one day of the year when the quarters were subject to the scrutiny of feminine eyes and the visitors found much to 1 them In the large building At 4 there was n a reception gIven by the officers and directors of the asso association association with Mr and Mrs Windsor V Rice at the head of the tine line Others were Mr and Mrs W V Mont Ferry Mr and Mrs W W Armstrong Mr lIr and Mrs F FB FB B Stephens Mr and Mrs W r C Orem Dr and Mrs E D Hammond Mr and Mrs Oscar L Cox and Mr lIr and Mrs L LC LC C Miller Light refreshments were served during this reception A basketball game furnished amuse amusement meat ment for the crowd that filled every available nook In the gymnasium and later a musical program was given In the main lobby This program was as tol fol follows lows the Dawn Excelsior Quartet of the Earth Ivor J Brind VIolin Joseph Cline Dream of the U S A AG AG G V Savage Threads Among the Gold Charles L Crowton Piano Composition Harry Allen Carl I Have You Excelsior Quartet The program was one of exceptional merit and It was well appreciated In the evening there was In Informal informal formal musical program and many visitors enjoyed the hospitality ot of the association association tion |
