All the saw mills in Cache Valley are now being worked up to their full capacity, and still cannot keep pace with the demand for lumber. The Quarterly Conference of Cache Valley Stake will be held on Saturday next in the Tabernacle, commencing at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hiram Smith, tie-cutter on Deer Creek on the south side of Hell Gate has had three bear fights, this year, and got away with brain in every instance. - Ogden Herald. We would urge business men to note the advantage of taking time by the forelock; instead of hiding their business to extend their shop fronts into our columns, thus keeping the public fully posted as to what they have for sale. There will be a concert given in the basement of the Tabernacle by the Tabernacle choir on Saturday evening next. All who appreciate the faithful, indefatigable musical labor of Bro. (Brother) Alec Lewis and his assistants should not fail to patronize this entertainment. The detective employed by the City Council to search out offenders for liquor selling has been very successful in obtaining cases. Complaints have been laid against eight different parties, in some instances two or more charges being preferred against an individual. Yesterday morning as Henry Read, one of the employees on the new court house was walking over the open floor joists thereof, he made a mis-step, fell across them and dropped to the floor below. He sustained slight injuries, which necessitated a day of rest. There have been numerous sales of property this year and more could easily be disposed of, if holders would only make their offerings public. Under the head of "Property for Sale," you can have a five line description of it inserted for 25 cents, in each issue of this Journal. Five cents additional for each succeeding line. Logan had an old-fashioned Pioneer Day on the 24th inst. The celebration was commenced by the usual gun-firing, and concluded with fireworks and noisy crackers in the evening. This day is commemorated as the anniversary of the arrival of the pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley, and is observed as a general holiday throughout the territory. On the 24th inst. three boys were running horses at racing speed on the principal streets, parents should impress upon their children when sent out with animals of the great danger of riding at a break-neck pace within the city limits, not only in themselves but unto others. They also place themselves liable to a fine for contravening the city ordinances. Let the nuisance be abated. |
