Show Talking of Utah Land Frauds. New Yobk, February 3. The St. Louis Tribune prints the following: M. A. Gibson, a prominent member of the Mormon ehuroh, on his way to Washington to work in the interest of Mormon legislation, arrived here to-day. He said, among other things: "The cry being raised at Washington by Commissioner Commis-sioner Sparks and other Administration Democrats over land f rands in Utah is based upon facts or reliable information. Land frauds have been committed in the Territory beyond question, but the Mormons have the satisfaction of knowing that Territorial Surveyors-General, Beceivers of the Land Office and other officials for years past have been Gentiles. I know nothing of the details de-tails of fraud charged, but almost as far back as I can remember, the stretching of land grants and fraudulent entries, under the homestead and pre-emption laws, have been the common talk of that part of the country. |
