With a record ot nearly 2 0 years of successful private practice prac-tice of the law and judicial experience ex-perience behind him, Judge Allen G. Thurman, pretfding judge of the District tlourt of the Third Judicial District, has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for attorney general of the State of Utah. A son of the Hon. Samuel H. Thurman, former chief justice of the state supreme court and a founder of the Democratic party in Utah, Judge Thurman was born in Provo 4 7 years ago. He reeived his education in the public pub-lic srhools of Provo and 3alt Lake City, the L. D. S. University, Univer-sity, the University of Utah and George Washington University in Wahsinftpn, D. C, where he received re-ceived his law degree. After serving 2 7 months overseas over-seas during the world war, Judge Thurman was admitted to the bar and practiced law in New York City until 1928, when he returned to his native state, taking tak-ing up his profession in Salt Lake City. As presiding judge, Judge Thurman has devotes cousidiTJ able of his attention to speeding up the trial of cases and his efforts ef-forts have resulted in the six courts under his supervision being be-ing able to keep their calendars! clear and bring matters to trial within a month after coming to issue. As a memper of the Utah bar committee on criminal proce- dure for years, Judge Thurman helped to bring about the enact-' enact-' ment of laws to eliminate technicalities techni-calities which the profession long has felt resulted in miscarriage j of justice in many instances. Judge Thurman is a member j of the bars of the District of I Columbia, New York and Utah and a member of the American Legion and Jacitson League of the Democratic party. |
