Show STRAWBERRY PROJECT 90 PER GENTCOMPLETE When Irrigation Season Begin There Will be 230,000 Acre-feet Acre-feet of Water la Res- ervolr j ' j The Strawberry project, whoa' completed, contemplates the irrlga tion of 50,000 to 60,000 acres oC land in the vicinity of Spanish Fork Salem and Payson, and about 12,--000 acres in Goshen valley. The irrigated land Is nearly all held in private ownership and 1 about equally divided between benca.-and benca.-and bottom lands varying fro a about 4500 to 4800 feet above uox level. A considerable acreage of th project has a water right which U insufficient during tne latter part of the irrigation system to permt th raising of fruit, sugar beets and other oth-er crops that require irrigation lat in the Beason: Some of the land has also beea-cultivated beea-cultivated as dry farm land. These dry' lands and lands with partial water rights now receive water from the Strawberry reservoir in amountl necessary to secure the successful cultivation of almost any kind of temperate tem-perate climate crops upon the entire en-tire area. At the present time the project is almost 90 per cent completed. The completed features are the storage works, comprising Strawberry tunnel, tun-nel, three and three-quarters mile long, capacity 600 second feet, and lined throughout with concrete; Strawberry dam, earth filled, with, reinforced concrete core wall 420 (Continued on Page Eight) |
