Show CONFERENCE AT MARSH VALLEY. On Thursday last, November 13th, President William B. Preston with his counselors, Bishops W. H. Maughan and G. O. Pitkin, and Elder G. L. Farrell, left Logan by the night train for Marsh Valley, Idaho, where they held conference and organized the ward. On Saturday the services were commenced in the Hawkins schoolhouse; and the speakers during the day were President Preston and Elders G. L. Farrell, W. H. Maughan, C. O. Card, John Lee, Charles Barrett, G. O. Pitkin, and M. W. Merrill. In the evening a meeting was held for the organization of the Y. M. M. I. A., which was well attended and quite successful, addresses being delivered by G. L. Farrell, President of the societies in this Stake, and by Presidents W. B. Preston and M. W. Merrill. On Sunday remarks were made by Bishops Maughan and Pitkin, and Presidents Preston, Merrill and Card; and the organization of the ward was effected as follows: The name given was the "Marsh Valley Ward;" with Melvin L. Gruwell as Bishop, and Wm. [William] West Woodland and Wm. Henderson his counselors; Wm. [William] Rees Davis, clerk; Wm. [William] Capell, president of the teachers; Wm. [William] H. Makeley, president of the Elders; Fred Baker, superintendent of the Sunday school, with Edwin Watson and Joseph Marley as his assistants; David Rees Davis, presiding teacher and president of the High Priests, Wm. C. Hawkins, president of the Y. M. M. I. A., with Carter H. Gould and Lewis H. Baker as his counselors; and Wm. [William] C. Hawkins, choir leader. On Sunday evening the party went to Garden Creek, where a meeting was held, and addresses were delivered by Elders G. L. Farrell and C. O. Card. The return to this city was made on Monday morning. |
