Show BURIED IN A TRENCH. The trench which has been made to accommodate the water pipes, near the "big ditch," was a pit for the reception of horses on Friday evening last. We have heard of two or three accidents which occurred in that locality, the most serious of them being described by an eye witness as follows: A boy was driving a span of fine horses, belonging to Mr. Shirley, a stock raiser of Nevada, along the street crossed by the trench; and, not knowing that there was any danger in the way, and the night being quite dark, he allowed the animals to take their own course. The result was that they slipped down the embankment and rolled over each other in the trench. As the earth had been excavated to a considerable depth, it was quite a fall for the horses and they were badly bruised. The traces had to be cut and a large mass of earth removed before they were extricated. |
