Mr. Kyrlo was a great lover of treos, and especially of elms, of which ho planted an avenue near tho church. Ono of the troes of this avonuo was cut down, and, It Is supposed that Its offshoots have grown up lnsldo of tho church at oach ond of the pew. Tho parish church at Kompsey contains a chestnut tree which grows from tho tomb of Sir Edward Wilde. Tho school chlldron of tho vlllago used to sit In tho chancel, and It Is said on one occasion tholr toacher found ono of thorn eating a chestnut, and that ho snatched it away ami threw It behind be-hind tho tomb, whore It took root and has flourished. |
