A disriatch from Rome says that the Pope, when receiving Archbishop Ire-Ian Ire-Ian drecently, expressed great satisfaction satis-faction at the manner in which the archbishop upheld the dignity of the church nt the unveiling of the Lafayette La-fayette monument in' Paris. His Holiness, Holi-ness, referring to the charge that te Vatican was hostile to the Uniteel States, said: "On the contrary, we warmly recognize the great mission of America as the agent of civilization and progress, in which religion is the leading factor. Consequently, instead of despising, we place entire confidence in your energetic, go-ahead nation." |
