Show I I Quaint Reward of Constancy I G q r r rIn In the quaint little church at Minsterley In England are preserved pre pree preserved served seven maiden garlands which are relics of an Interesting custom of the eighteenth century The tradition 1 concerning them Is that when a maiden whose betrothed had died was herself carried still unwed to the grave one ono of these crowns of garlands was borne before her coffin b by y the village girls TTO The date of the earliest specimen In Minsterley church Is 1726 and the latest 1794 wu When the funeral was over the wreath was hung up In the church over the place the maiden had been wont to occupy to commemorate her con con- tancy stancy The framework of the wreaths shown In the accompanying photograph photograph photo photo- graph is adorned with frills of what was once white paper and In the center is a representation of a pair of gloves also In paper |
