Chaffin, who is the owner of the Moqui bar on the Colorado, not far from the ground owned by the California liar people, h in the city with a retort ot gold valued at about $700, being: the result of a two week's run . with lour men and a team, yi , v.-; ; Mr. Charrin reports that there is renewed . activity along the river md that during the present winter a large amount of the yellow metal will be recovered, along its shores. Among the lucky ones who made discoveries along the river were W. B. Hay, Frank Kimball and George Munelly, who ' formerly ' were interested inter-ested - in ' the Moqui bar; and it is reported thatthese gentlemen have found very; rich diggings near the 1 mouth' of the Sari : Juan river, where it empties into the Colorado . 5 ' It is the intention of Mr. Chaffin to. install one of . Mitchell's latest improved machines on the . Moqui bar, and.it is more than likely that the plant will 4 be ordered and installed in-stalled within the next 60 days. Angus McKellar, the inventor of the gold amalgamator that has been named the "Little Wonder", mention of which has been made in . these columns, has returned from' a trip into the .Colorado river country, where he has been for the purpose of finding gold placer grounds on which to operate his machine, and The Herald is informed that about 75 miles below Green River he found just what he 1 was looking for, and that within a few. ; days he will leave for these diggings with one of .hi machines, which is to be followed by several others as soon as a trial run has been made. The bar' secured by Mr. McKellar, it is stated, will carry 75 cents in gold to the cubic yard and the gravel can be easily handled. .A number of prominent Salt Lakers are backing Mr. McKellar in this enterprise, and it is understood under-stood that .before -long a company will be incorporated by them for the purpose of manufacturing the machine on a large scale and putting it on the market, besides which the company will engage in the gold ' 4 |
