That word comes from project supervisor, Marianne Cone, who has been trying to organize a city aluminum can and newspaper recycling scheme for some months. Profits from the center could be used for litter lit-ter control in Park City, she said. A design for a recycling shed was drawn up this week, free of charge, by Steve Deckert of Alliance Engineering. The plans call for an 8' x 12' wood shed, roofed and walled to protect newspapers from damaging weather. A short aisle down the center of the shed will have storage bins to the left and right, into which recyclable material can be dropped. . An estimated $1,187.41 in materials will be required to build the shed. That expense would be paid Of AHfRICA 41 '3,1 Marshall Holmes I sSgr - Chet Atkins "3 m1 ZSm JJ Stm-. ... J . Originally, Ms. Cone hoped to locate the recycling center behind City Hall but plans to build restrooms onto the city offices have forced a search for a new location. "We need a location that is convenient to use and is close to the road where snow removal won't be a problem," Ms. Cone noted. "One good possibility would be a site near the Mt. Air Market." Once in operation the recycling center is expected to generate enough funds to hire local kids for a litter control program. Current recycling prices for aluminum cans figure to nearly a penny per can. Considering Con-sidering the volume of six-pack six-pack sales local markets do, Park City should be able to hire an army of trash collectors. collec-tors. The city is expected to review the needs of the recycling project within the next few weeks. Fe of V, j f , w max meter-. W foe eXORBlTADT H6rWV$ AS A MAJ$ Dear Editor: Park City's Oktoberfest, the first of many, was a huge success. I would like to thank the entire community for turning out for the Event. A fun time was had by all. An Event, like the Oktoberfest Oktober-fest does not happen by itself without a lot of man power and support behind it. I would like to express my appreciation ap-preciation and thanks to the Oktoberfest committee members Adolph Imboden and Jill Barnard of Adolph's and Jere Calmes of the Main Street Deli for providing the delicious German food and pastries. More thanks to Emil Muegge and Star Distributing Co. for donating many of the prizes and hours of help along with seeing that we never ran out of Lowen-brau Lowen-brau beer. Adding to the excitement Mail Complaint Dear Editor: I am incensed at the new policy adopted by the Park City Post Office that mail addressed to a street address ad-dress will be returned to the sender endorsed "insufficient "insuf-ficient address" or "return to sender." It is impractical, imprac-tical, unjust and discriminatory to put this program into effect when the only reference general.'y available to ascertain the mailing address of a business or individual is the street address listed in the phone book. The justification for this policy is the increase in mail volume handled. Inasmuch as revenue is directly correlated with mail volume, it seems the increase in-crease in mail processed for delivery would justify personal per-sonal delivery of our mail rather than reduced service. I personally am at the mercy of the postal service Importance Of County Commissioners Board of Health Dear Sirs & Madames : I regret that I cannot attend at-tend tonight's meeting in person, however, I would like to address the discussion of the Summit County Public Health Department. I cannot emphasize too strongly the importance of the public health program in Park City and throughout Summit County. In fact, the services are invaluable. Rather than questioning whether the services should be continued, the Board should be expanding the services ser-vices to encompass a full scale clinic in more adequate facilities to better service the community and provide more in-depth services ser-vices on a regular basis. It is a well-known fact that due to the rising cost of medical care more and more people are simply not seeking medical attention because they cannot afford to. Many communities have found it necessary to educate the public in an effort to let citizens know that affordable medical help is available. Such communities have found the response overwhelming over-whelming from people of all was the first Octoberfest 'Run. a definite highlight of the celebration. Thanks to Jeannine Carofanello and the Prospector Athletic Club for their sponsorship and to Wolfe's for donating the T-' shirts and prizes. August Brand, our Bavarian burgermeister, along with Bill Coleman kept things moving while the Alamo men, Wayne Putnam and Darrell LeFranier and their volunteers added to the fun by organizing and officiating of-ficiating the contests. Thanks to all of you and to the many volunteers from bartenders to ticket takers who made it all happen. If I've left anyone out, please forgive me. Sincerely, Daryl Garnas, Oktoberfest Chairman Park City Chamber of Commerce to deliver mail advising me of filing deadlines, court appearances ap-pearances and other vital information in-formation regarding my practice as an attorney. We, as citizens and business people in this community, simply cannot afford to see this policy implemented which would only add to the delay and inefficiency already prevalent in this bureaucratic institution. Since we are paying the same rates as other postal patrons in this County, State and Nation, we are entitled to similar service. I publicly request our Postmaster, Bryon L. Johnson, to hire an additional one or two employees em-ployees to prepare an alphabetical listing of each postal patron with his accompanying ac-companying post office box and deliver mail according to past policy. Terry L. Christiansen ' Public Health ages and, in many cases, have had to enlarge their facilities. The citizens of Summit County need to know that they have somewhere to go for medical aid and preventive preven-tive medicine services. Not everyone can afford a physician for such services as offered by the Public Health Department. The unemployed, the disadvantaged, disadvan-taged, the family making ends meet who can't afford any medical bills, the farmer far-mer who had a bad crop it doesn't matter. Our founding fathers gave each person a right to the wealth and health of this nation. Remember, private medical insurance is .often, just as expensive as the medical care itself and in the absence of a national health insurance plan public health services are of dire necessity. Therefore, I respectfully request that you not only lend your complete support to the Public Health Department Depart-ment but that you actively engage in a program to create a clinic by relocating Continued On Page 11 W3 w imp mizan |
