Show JUNE 22,2006 THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER Page 14 BRYCE VALLEY AREA NEWS yy Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@holmail.com Had the scare of my life last Wednesday. I work at the Summer Reading Library on Wednesdays and was enjoying the nice breeze that was keeping us cool and checking out books with the kids when Shauna Talbot came in and said that we had better evacuate the building because there was a fire behind us. I had a hard time believing it because when I went in 45 minutes earlier there was no fire and no hint of one. When we closed up the building and I moved my vehicle I was shocked to see the huge' fire that was going one. The flames were ferocious and high. They were burning.anything that was in the way and it was going so fast. There were fire companies from 3 or 4 towns, including Panguitch and the Park that were working hard to keep it from spreading further. A vacant house, a shed, part of a barn, some equipment (Farm) and many trees and bushes were lost to the-fire. The fire went up into the air about 30 or 40 feet and it was loud. It then jumped across the road and attacked DeRell Sudweeks corrals and hay stacks. The firemen did a great job of containing it to that one corner except for Sudweeks place. They were there for many hours making sure the fire was completely out and nothing else was in danger. The smoke was thick and black and made the clouds above black for hours after the fire. Thanks to Shauna for watching out for us and to the fire departments for their long hard work. Saw Glenna Fletcher at the hospital in Panguitch visiting with Arma Stock. Arma has" been in the hospital for a while and we hope she will soon be well enough to return home to recover. Glenna was there to try to cheer her up and help her out. Also saw Ken Goulding as he was leaving the hospital after having some treatment and Ed Dunham was with him for company. Hope you are soon feeling better Ken. - Delpha Rose.celebrated her 85th birthday on the 27th of May.
