Show JUNE 22,2006 by Earl Roe wearlroe@yahoo.com WELCOME HOME TRIPLE DEUCE! This week is a good example of why I asked our editor if he would mind if I entitled my article "The Knothole", or a peek at what's happening on the other side of the fence." Because there isn't much local news to report so I can cover some things that might involve some of our readers or be of interest to them. For a day a couple of weeks ago, Panguitch became a "Hollywood" for a day when a German film company shot some scenes for an upcoming movie about a young German couple who decided to spent their honeymoon touring the United States and spent a night in Panguitch while headed for Austin, Nevada. The husband later wrote a book about their American experiences which became a best seller in Germany so it was decided to make a move based on the book. They were so impressed with the 'Little Western Town of Panguitch* that the author told the movie director he wanted at least one scene shot in Panguitch. Fourteen local Panguitchites, Alex & Yvonne Ricketts, Connie Orton, Dave Orton, Michael Lamb, Jay & Charlott Clark, Merle Stowell, Norma Talbot, Marilyn Veater, Ardith Davis, Mayor Art Cooper and Tod Harrison, each earned $100 for participating in some way in the production. (Art & Ardith were portrayed as a couple taking their luggage from their car and entering.a room in the Sands Motel.) Two popular German movie stars, Dee Baldus (actress) & August Diehl (actor) portrayed the honeymooning couple and the Producer was Andreas Eicher. Ardith said it was really fun and exciting and hopes the movie will be so popular in Germany that it might be done over in English and be shown in the U.S. Evidently it must be difficult for German tourists to find their favorite foods because this group had their own kitchen and staff of chefs as do many of the touring groups coming from Germany. Grant and Gloria Houston just returned from spending a week vacation celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Gloria said one of their children called and asked what they were going to do to commemorate this event and Gloria said that they would probably just stay home. Their children (Kelly, Fran, THE GARFIFXD COUNTY INSIDER Lana, & Ryan) could not accept this so Panguitch.
