Show Ej --ygS. 3J.. --" I OBITUARY I Mrs. Mary Houck died at the family borne on Main street. Tiffin, O.. Monday afternoon. Feb. 26. at 2:40 p. m. Deceased De-ceased suffered a stroke of uaralysis about a year ago. Another followed on the 9th of last month, followed by the third on the 2Gth, causing her death. Mrs. Hcuck was born at Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany, July 29. 1S37, coming with her parents, the late Michael Brickner. and familv, to Seneca Sen-eca county. Ohio, in 1841. where she resided until her death. On May S, 185.9. she was married to the late John Houck, who died Aug. IS, 1SS9. Fifteen children were raised bv deceased, de-ceased, thirteen of whom are living all being present at the funeral except Louis H., of Cheney, Wash., and Charles A., of this city. The funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church. Tiffin, O., Thursday morning, of which the family have been lifelong members, and consisted of a Solemn Requiem High Mass, which waa doubly impressive from the fact that the eldest son of deceased, Rev. G. F. Houck (chancellor of the diocese, Cleveland,) sung the Mass, which was offered as follows: Celebrant, Rev. G. F. Houck, Cleveland; deacon. Rev. J. F. Kuebler. Massilon: sub-deacon, Rev. Thomas F. Conlon, Toledo; master of ceremonies. Rev. Father Rebholtz, Sandusky; San-dusky; Rev. Father Kleekamp, Fos-toria. Fos-toria. Rev. Father Baumgardner, pastor of St. Joseph's, received the remains at the entrance to the church, and, after Mass. delivered the eulogy. Among other things, he said: "Deceased had the unique distinction of having reared fifteen children, four of whom have consecrated their lives to God." (Rev. G. F. Houck. Cleveland; Sisters Ursula Ur-sula and Odelia. who belong to the Ur-suline Ur-suline Community of Tiffin; Fred A., who has been attending a; Jesuit novitiate at Van Valken- j bunr. Holland, the past twelve I years, and has but recently returned to this country, being now at St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore.) His tribute to Mrs. Houck's life can be summed up in the following sentence: "She was a good mother; therefore, a good Christian." Chris-tian." Four sons and 'two grandsons acted as pall, bearers, and tenderly lowered to its last earthly resting place all that was mortal of a lovine: mother, a devout de-vout Christian, a kind and good woman. Charles Houck. the well known newspaper news-paper man, now of the Salt Lake Herald, Her-ald, was a, sion of the deceased. He knew of his mother's illness, bat her death was a great shock to him, and he will have the sympathy of many friends in his sorrow. |
