Show CITY COUNCIL. Regular session, held November 5, 1838, ... Present, Mayor Brown, Councillors Cottam, Foster, Miles and Jarvis. Minutes of last session read and approved. ap-proved. Samuel H. Wells appeared in refer-rence refer-rence to complaints having been made in regard to wagons being in the street near his shop for repair and made a verbal petition that he be allowed to use the street for that purpose under reasonable restrictions. The petition was taken under advisement, the result of same to be communicated to petitioner. peti-tioner. Ordered, that the various blacksmith shops are allowed the use of the street for a space of ten feet in width from the ditch and not more than three wagons to be on the street at any one time, and that in setting tires not to be allowed to cool their tires in the ditch, and that the ditches hear their shops be kept free from rubbish. Petition of Seth A. Pymm and others, that the bicycle track constructed by petitioners on Public square be protected protect-ed from the racing of horses and driving of wagons on their track, and that the marshal be instructed to use his utmost ut-most endeavours to prevent the same. Referred to Committee on Public Grounds. The Mayor reported on the matter of petition of John H. Pearce for decreased decreas-ed liquor license. The committee of a whole had decided that if a license be granted that it be under the existing ordinance Bill of Joseph T. Atkin, Marshal, for deputy, -$1.00 allowed. Bill of Wells Bros, for repairing jail $6.50, allowed. Bill of John R. Wallis for publishing-notice, publishing-notice, $1.50, allowed. Bill of I. C. Macfarlane for surveying survey-ing and making map of cemetary $10.00, allowed. Bill of Seth A. Pymm for regulating-water regulating-water schedule, $5.00, allowed. Bill of Jos. T. Atkin for repairs on jail, etc., $5.95, allowed. Bill of Justice's Court in case of Indian, Casketts, $3.20, allowed. Bill of Marshal Atkin for board of prisoners, $10.20, allowed. Bill of Watermaster Atkin far labor on ditches and bridges, $9.50, allowed. The Committees on Claims reported on bill of Ex-Marshal Worthen, $10.00, for deputies, that the bill be allowed in City tax: and that bill of St. George C. M. I. of $14.50, that the items of interest $2.10, nails 75c. and nails 70c. be stricken strick-en out and that balance of $11.05 bo allowed al-lowed in cash. Reports accepted. The city marshal was instructed to notify the Bishop's agent to take out a butcher's license in accordance with I revised ordinances. Also to notify , photagraphers and boarding house j keepers. |
