Show OREM TIMES Page 9 COMMUNITY SPORTS, PEOPLE AND OUTDOOR FUN Tiger football is ready to contend for Region 7 title Thursday, August 16, 2007 mm Russ Lyman NORTH COUNTY Regardless of the common saying that suggests otherwise, other-wise, there are some certainties certain-ties in life especially when it comes to the fall season. The leaves will change color, the weather will turn colder and Orem High School will field a competitive football team. As Orem coach Bob Steele ' enters his 26th season as a high school coach, he says people can expect the same thing that they've always seen out of his Tiger players. Russ Lyman NORTH COUNTY The Kruger family name is becoming a constant with Timberwolves football. This season, Timpanogos lineman David Kruger, who is one of six children, will follow in his older brother Paul's footsteps while paving the way for sophomore Joe to continue the family legacy at the North Orem school. This upcoming season, Kruger Kru-ger also hopes to build up a legacy of winning for the local lo-cal football program. "It means a lot to me to be carrying on school pride and my family name," Kruger said. "Football has been a big part of my life. My family has all played and I wouldn't want to let them down." Kruger also doesn't want to let his school and community commu-nity down. David believes that although al-though the school has never won oneta region championship champi-onship is something that he and his teammates can bring back to the community because be-cause it's one of the special senior classes that has a higher than normal level of talent. Not only is there talent, tal-ent, but most of the seniors have played together for as many as five years so there See KRUGER, Page 11 C:L m 79 S. We will be a good team," Steele said. "Teams should expect to have a football game when they play us because we're going to come to hit people." There is always a good deal of optimism surrounding the Orem program, but there is cause for little extra confidence confi-dence going into the upcoming season. "We've got more varsity experience ex-perience than we've ever had. We return five or six starters start-ers on both sides of the ball," Steele said. As the coach of the only Region Re-gion 7 team with a legitimate shot at dethroning the T'Birds, Steele acknowledges the talent his team's rival possesses; however, how-ever, even Timpview can expect ex-pect to see the best the Tigers have to offer in the upcoming season. Our guys will come out fired up and give them a game when we play." Like most seasons, the Tigers' Ti-gers' success will start up front with the return of several talented tal-ented big men. Leading the way up front on both sides of the ball will be Alehi Faalafua, Jake Brickey and Luke Manisi. "He looks really, really good. He's a tall kid that throws the ball really well and understands under-stands the offense," Steele said of his young quarterback. "He runs well, throws well, makes good choices and doesn't get rattled very easy." Hamblin will have plenty of options to throw to. Steve Warner has already received some preseason recognition and returns as a starter at wideout. Jake Robins and Jordan Johnston will also be counted on to catch the ball downfield. lll'lfi RfiFli WTinT'l WlMhT'lV h I hTl 625 N. State St. Orem 224-2698 boxmartqwestoffice.net 833 S. 170 E.
