Show Thursday, October 13, 2005 Page 7 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Flag Football Championships held By JEREMY PICKETT The first round of the playoffs saw the first place Elkridge Financial Bengals taking on the 4th place Lotsa Motsa Steelers. The Bengals Ryker Pickett caught two touchdowns as the Bengals ran wild against the Steelers 47-0. Game two of the older division had the 2nd place Jean Scene Falcons versus the 3rd place Dr. Judy Family Practice Broncos. The Falcon's Lafe Christenson had two touchdowns, but the Broncos were too much in the second half as they wan 26-14. Game one of the younger division matched the first place Gunnison Gazette Vikings and the 4th place Gunnison Market Chiefs. The Vikings Kyler White and Carson Henline led the way in scoring. Benjamin Agren of the Chiefs scored their lone touchdown as the Vikings win 20-6.^ Game two of the younger division had the third place Subway Raiders against the 2nd place Premier Financial Titans. The Raider's Carson Hanson scored and Clay Mellor scored two TD's but. it was the Raider's defense that won this game holding the Titans to one touchdown in which Alyssa Worthington rumbled 30 yards to score. The Raiders won 24-6. In the final championship round, the younger division consolation round started off with the Premier Financial Titans taking on the Gunnison Market Chiefs. Payton Judy helped lead the Titans to a victory over the Chiefs 34-6. The Chiefs Seth Bown scored and Trey Clark, .who got stung on the eye by a bee in the previous game, toughed it out and played the second game. That's dedication! In the older division consolation round the 2nd place Jean Scene Falcons faced the 4th place Lotsa Motsa Steelers. The championship game matched the 4-3 3rd place Subway Raiders against the 6-1 first place Gunnison Gazette Vikings. The Raider's defense managed to contain Drake Nelson to two touchdowns, while in the rain, the Raider's Morgan Harris and Drew Hill ran for scores, while Drayson Pickett threw two touchdowns to Drew and Clay Mellor. The Raider's good defense helped them pull off the upset over the Vikings with a final score of 27-12. The older division championship game saw the undefeated 7-0, first place Elkridge Financial Bengals versus the 3-4, third place Dr. Judy Fam- ily Practice Broncos. This game was a battle of David and Goliath. The Bengals started the scoring with a Colby Caldwell touchdown run, but the Broncos had a little luck on their side, as Preston Judy threw a pass that was tipped by two players but landed in the arms of Quincy Cox in the back of the end zone. On the ensuing pat. Caldwell picked it off and ran it back for two points to give the Bengals the lead 8-6. Taylor Burrell caught a key first, down play with 1:45 left in the game, then when she realized she had the ball, she ran it in for a score to give the Broncos a 34-20 lead. The final score ended up with the Broncos shocking the Bengals 40-20. The Bronco's Preston Judy scored a TD and had three interceptions. Austin Olsen and Joey Carsile also added touchdowns for the Broncos. The Bengal's Colby Caldwell had all three of their touchdowns and two interceptions. All in all the game went great and the kids had a blast. Gunnison Flag Football would like to thank Gunnison High School for letting us use the baseball field for the regular season and the football field for the playoffs.
