Show The United States Air Force and Southeast Asia (Editor's Note: This is the concluding installment in a series of articles regarding the United States Air Force's role in Southeast Asia. The series has provided insight as to why we are in Vietnam as well as specific examples of what our personnel are doing there.) GENERAL SUPPORT Conduct of the war in Vietnam involves not only tactical, airlift, and air rescue operations but many other areas as well. So widespread is U.S. Air Force participation in the conflict that random examples, though not entirely representative, might best show its diversity. Not only are fighting men in good health by our Air kept Force medics, but few doctors have been called upon to use their skills as frequently as the medical team at Bien Hoa Air Base. Sick calls, crash alerts and the mass treatment and evacuation of wounded and injured are all a part of the job at this key installation where Air Force pi lots train their Vietnamese counterparts and fly strikes against the Viet Cong. The doctors also make weekly visits to treat Vietnamese children in the community. Just keeping track of the whereabouts of Air Force personnel in Vietnam is a major task. Yet all Air Force personnel actions are processed at the Consolidated Base Personnel Office (CBPO), at Tan Son Nhut. Many other CBPO's are planned throughout South Vietnam.
