If you have any emotional health, everyone should vacation. qualms at all, leave and find an take at least an annual vacation. Let's define the word. Webster says it's "A period of absence from work, for Not And what does recreate mean? "To impart new vigor; or after labor, refreshment of body or mind." When planned with this in mind, it's a prescription that is sure to improve health. It's main purpose should be to get away from responsibilities, tensions and boredom. The key is a change of pace. WHERE TO GO? That's immaterial, as long as it pleases you and your family, and is a change of pace from your usual routine. However, it should leave some time for vigorous mental and physical activity. There are too many forms of passive recrea tion. But, keep strenuous activity at a sensible level, or it can ruin a vacation. HEALTH TIPS FOR A TRIP: It's better not to start it on the first day or to end it on the last. This only leads to hurry and fatigue by pressures, before, during and after the vacation. Take your time, so that you wreck-creatio- n! Leave office, cares behind and pace yourselves during the trip. Make a safety check of your home and car to save you worry while on holiday. When you travel by car, a sensible goal is everyone's enjoyment, safety and good health. From 200 to 400 miles per day is good mileage. Too much daily travel leads to fatigue, uncertain tempers and accidents. In extremely hot weather, the most comfortable travel is in the morning before the sun is high, in the late afternoon, or early evening. Safety calls for avoiding night driving except when deserts have to be crossed. FOOD AND LODGING: The places you choose to eat and stay may make the difference between a family of happy, comfortable, alert travelers or exhausted, grumpy, deflated travelers. Health authorities in many states post ratings in a prominent place in restaurants and motels. If no such rating is noted, have some member of the family go in first to check out the general appearance. Another member can check other place. CAUTION: FOOD & WATER: Travelers are good condidates for food poisoning. ' In summer the risk is greater since heat and improper refrigerating combine to spoil food. Avoid such foods as meat spreads (chicken, ham), potato, seafood and egg salads, creamed dishes, cream or custard filled pastries, and raw milk or cream. x adds A good portable much comfort and pleasure to a vacation. Stock it with fresh fruit, drinks, cheese and crackers, cookies, radishes, celery and carrot sticks. If you plan to camp out, remember, cold running water is not necessarily safe water.
