They are terms used to describe dance steps in the new social-danc- e class taught on Tuesday nights at the BDAC dance studio as part of CEU's Division of Continuing Education At the beginning of class Stevie Wonder's Part Time Lover was blaring through the speakers Students spanning the age spectrum from college students to retirees were being instructed by Darell Gardner to "step step rock-steThe class taught by Gardner "offers traditional ballroom contemporary ballroom and western" Although Latin dance is his favorite "because you get p" VVIV II to wiggle your hips" Gardner quipped He has been teaching ten years this is the first time Gardner has taught a class of this kind at CEU Originally from Orangeville Gardner now lives in Cleveland teaching wrestling dance pe and cross country "I also handle a farm on the side" Gardner said He has taught at Utah State University were he joined his first dance group Gardner had not always been interested in dance "I came to CEU on an athletic scholarship My advisor told me that I needed a dance credit to graduate and I wound up taking one and liking it" From there Gardner went on to USU to day football and track and left dancing behind until "I met a woman at USU from Price who said her performance group needed a guy" The rest is history Gardner did not expect the number of students that turned up for the class "The turnout is excellent Having a larger beginner's class is fun” Gardner docs have help though His wife Natalie assists individual students with their technique and is there when Darell needs a partner to demonstrate a dance move to the class They didn't meet through dancing although their first date was to a dance performance "I was trying to put some culture in her life" Gardner says How do the students feel about all the class?
