Heinz Soup Co. with its 57 brands can't keep up. When I was working for the city, I was told to let the prosperous looking people alone, as they might spend the money to hire a lawyer and beat the case. I didn't think that was proper law enforcement, that the law should treat everyone the same. It is said I didn't follow orders good. I can when they are just and proper. I held a job for the State of Arizona for 24 years as brand inspector and still have my job as a security officer with Security Guard. So I must be able to follow orders pretty There's a gentle political breeze blowing through our valley; before election time it will reach gale force. They will promise us pie in the sky and not tell us they are going to eat it all. There's work we've been promised and should be done. Shortly before election they will change clothes with the six million dollar man and wonder woman; they will put flashers in at third and state and pick up all loose and unlicensed dogs and jump down to Provo with them. We don't have a dog pound. A near by town solved their problem by leasing a basement. The dogs were in out of the weather and the town got the boarding fee and the fee. It's quite pound expensive to haul two or three dogs to Provo, where the money could be used better at home. Most of the politicians today spend most of their time trying to decide what taxes to raise or what they could raise the prices on the things we need, instead of managing our tax money better. My good. promised not to pack a gun after they got me a two way radio, but I was a long time getting it. Their promises seem to be a lot easier made than I to keep. When I try to observe the law in doing 25 miles an hour in a 25 mile zone, there are cars doing 40 and 50. When I'm in the 40 and 50 mile an hour zone, there are cars doing 60 and 80. What's the use of having laws on the books if they're not used. When I was working for the city and I got my personall belief is that we have one good politician, and that is Arnold Pope. Salt Lake City is getting along with a smaller council and we might do the same. There's more and more interest and write ups on cutting taxes, but it doesn't seem to be filtering home to our politicians. Utah brags about its wonderful scenery, and Lehi's doing its best to help out. You can see every imaginable breed orders, they told me to keep the dogs off the street. Chairman of the FA board, Richard F. Jones, reported that IFA had a very good year with a volume of business of $26,500,000 and that since 1966, when IFA resumed its equity redemption program, the association has paid out $2,500,000 in patron's equities. He also said the "cooperative movement must bind itself more closely together, and that we need to present a tighter knit front to protect ourselves from the bureaucratic controls being placed on us." full-tim- full-tim- IFA President John A. Rohaar announced the new expansion of IFA into Wyoming and Nevada. And like the other speakers, he also was concerned about the farmers situation under current trends. He said, "We continue to, cope with the problem of bigness, for in America we have a big population, big business, big labor, big manufacturers, big wholesalers, and big retailers. Conversely, studies indicate as education attainment increases, crime and employment decrease. It would appear that even a cursory glance at these and other available statistics would convince responsible legislators that education is an investment, not a cost to the public. But, instead, there seems to be a budget-cuttin- g mentality bound and determined to ders on irresponsibility. In November, let's elect the people who have the right priorities. Robert S.Hunsaker Director of Alpine, Nebo, and Provo Education Associations ' EDITOR'S NOTE: I'm sure our readers would like to know if the greatly increased funding of education during the past two decades has been able to decrease crime, unemployment, etc. It obviously has not. If you can show us more precisely how you propose to use tax money to "reach" the problem students, then maybe taxpayers would be more willing to open up their pocketbooks. Here in Utah, I do feel we are making a very positive step in that direction inthe through career dividualized mandated by the state board of education. Also, the Alpine School District tutoring reading program I think is worthy of greater funding, and what it has accomplished can be substantiated statistically. My point is this, Mr. Hunsaker: in the past funding has gone up and educational statistics have gone down. Now you will have to convince a rather skeptical citizenry in order matter, complicated although you have treated it rather I would sin- cerely invite a more response.
