Jennifer Regina and Robert Scott Johnson of Liberty had a baby boy on December 10. Weddings Kennedy-Dixon Trina Kennedy and Tevis Kerry Dixon were united in marriage on Friday, December 12 at the Liberty LDS 2nd Ward. A reception was held in their honor following the ceremony. The bride’s sister, Jamie Kennedy, was maid of honor; Gentry Dixon performed the duties of best man. The bride is the daughter of Vonda and Bob McLean of Eden, and Rick and Lynette Kennedy of Layton. She graduated from Weber High School. She plans to attend Weber State University. The bridegroom is the son of Kerry and Nancy Dixon of Ogden. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has been certified in network management, and is a PC specialist. The couple will reside in North Ogden following their honeymoon to Las Vegas. Obituaries Owen Wangsgard OGDEN - Prominent Five Points businessman Owen Wangsgard died December 9, 2003 at Infinia Healthcare, one day before his 96th birthday. Owen was born and raised in Ogden. His parents were Peter C. and Mary Ann Peterson Wangsgard of Huntsville, Utah. He attended Ogden City schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1926. He attended Weber College where he was a football and basketball star. He and his brother Keith were members of the football squad. When they went to Hawaii to play football, their pictures appeared in the Honolulu Advertiser December 20, 1928. In 1935 and 1936 he coached the Eighth Ward team to the All Church Basketball Tournament Championship. They were the only team in the history of M-Men basketball to win the championship two years in a row. His brother Spencer was on the team and was a high scorer. In 1919, his father Peter C. Wangsgard started Wangsgard’s Market at Five Points. Owen worked with his father and mother and continued running it after his father’s retirement. In 1959 Owen built a new store across the street on 2nd Street where it is still in business after 84 years. Owen retired in 1965. Owen married Edythe Jack in 1931. They have been married for 72 years. January 28 would have been their 73rd anniversary. They have two daughters, Wendy Wangsgard of San Diego, California and Gayle Bryan of Newport Beach. Son-inlaw Larry Bryan; and two grandsons, Derek Bryan of Newport Beach and Peter Bryan of San Diego. He is survived by his sister Shirley Peck of Roseville, California. Siblings Norma, Alton, Keith, and Spencer preceded him in death. Owen was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He was a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club for 50 years. He was a member of the Ogden 29th Ward and was a supporter of the Boy Scouts. A heartfelt thanks to our very special friends and caregivers, Jean Hacmeister and Pam Bethel. Send condolences to family at www.myers-mortuary.com Dorothy Campbell OGDEN - Dorothy Marion Keoppel Campbell, 82, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at Ogden Regional Hospital. She was born March 30, 1921 in Logan, Utah to Phillip and Annie Nelson Keoppel. She married LeRoy Bickmore in May 1941; they later divorced. She married Alma B. Campbell on July 1, 1943 in Salt Lake City; he preceded her in death in 1990. Dorothy was a member of the LDS church, formerly of the Wilson 2nd Ward. She enjoyed teaching quilting. One of her biggest joys was working in her garden. Surviving are her children, Larry (Fay) Bickmore, Federal Way, Washington; Robert (Carol) Campbell, No. Ogden; Gary Campbell, Ogden; Janice (Wayne) Lee, Montello, Nevada; a step-son, John Campbell, Ogden; seven grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Ralph (Janet) Keoppel, Huntsville; George Keoppel and Clyde Keoppel, both of Ogden. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie Keoppel, Russell Keoppel; and a great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Page. Graveside services were held on Thursday, December 11, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, Ogden. Send condolences to family at www.myers-mortuary.com Aften LeRoy “Lee” Cheney Lee Cheney, 86, died Sunday, December 14, 2003 at McKay-Dee Hospital after a short illness and his body’s inability to fight it, incidental to old age. He was born August 20, 1917 in Redmesa, Colorado, a son of Frank Eaton and Chloe Hadden Cheney. Lee was reared and educated in Colorado, moving to Utah in 1941. He married Virginia F. Tooley on January 4, 1940 in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. Lee entered the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving aboard the troop transport U.S.S. Benson and the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Wasp for the duration of World War II. He served an LDS mission in Texas from 1937 to 1939. Lee drove for Ogden City Bus for several years. He was a ranch foreman on a cattle ranch in both Garrison and Gandy, Utah. He began barbering in 1950, and owned and operated his own shops from 1954 until he retired in 1982. He owned and operated the White City Barber Shop, Lee’s Desert Inn Barber Shop, and Lee’s Barber Shop on 36th and Washington Blvd. Since his retirement in 1982, Lee continued barbering part-time until just two weeks prior to his death. Lee taught himself to play the guitar when he was a young boy. After moving to Ogden, he entertained at various clubs, churches, and organizations in and around the Ogden area, in addition to singing at many funerals. He was dedicated to performing with the American Legion at local cemeteries every Memorial Day. Lee was a member of the Weber County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse since 1952. He was an avid horseman. His love for horses and the outdoors kept him riding until the age of 84. He was also a member of the Desert Rats and the American Legion Post #129 of Huntsville. Lee was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints Eden 1st Ward. He held various positions within the Church over the years. In 1985, Lee and Virginia served in the Oklahoma, Tulsa LDS mission. They also served a mission from 1987 to 1989 at the Ogden Temple Visitors Center. Lee was a loving husband and father, and a devoted neighbor. His word was his bond, and he was never without a cheerful greeting for anyone. Surviving are his wife Virginia of 64 years; three children, Terry (RaVae) Cheney, West Haven; Linda (Mike) Gillespie, Eden; Trent (Pam) Cheney, Syracuse; as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Raymond (Margaret) Cheney, Salmon, Idaho. His parents, two brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death. Throughout his entire life, loyalty to his friends was paramount. More than anything else, he enjoyed good will and friendly association with others. He never forgot a name or a face. Funeral services were held Friday, December 19 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Interment, Eden Mountain. View Cemetery. Email condolences to the family at: lom@lindquistmortuary.com Jean Jensen MacKay SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. - Jean Jensen MacKay, age 89, passed away December 13, 2003 at her home following a short illness. Jean was born September 19, 1914 in Huntsville, Utah, the youngest child of Peter M. and Elizabeth B. Jensen. She was raised in Huntsville and attended Elementary School, both in Huntsville and Ogden. She graduated from Ogden High School (1933) and Weber College (1935). Jean served an LDS mission in the East Central States Mission (1935-1937). After graduating from Brigham Young University (1940) with a teaching certificate, she taught at Weber High School.
