The cheerleaders did a great job by starting things off wilh school spirit week. They planned Monday for Western day, Tuesday as Little Boy and Girl day and Wednesday as Red and Blue day with a mat dance in the afternoon. The wrestling and basketball teams both got their season underway last week also. The wrestlers met Duchesne at Altamont Wednesday night for their 1st match. After suffering two forfiets lost to Duchesne with a score of Doug Warden, Davy Thacker and Johnny Thayne all pinned their men. Captains for the team this year are Sid Farnsworth and Todd Hansen who is presently suffering a broken ankle and is unable to wrestle. Although the wrestlers lost their first match, all the members of the team made a good showing for themselves and expect many victories in future matches. Firday night the Longhorns met the Wendover Wildcats at Altamont for their n first game of the year. They started the season out right by defeating the Wildcats by score of 65-5High score man was Gary Slringham with 25 points, followed by Doyle Christensen with 16 points and Joe D. The wrestling match ended with a score of 39 to 30. David Chapman, Kalvin Killian, Kane Bertola and Buddy Burke won their matches by a pin. Charles Cruth and Bruce Tollcfson won by forfiets. Russ young defeated his man by decision. Ross Young, Dee Ivie and Thon Suddreth also participated. Richard Ivie, Tom Castillo, Terry Hughes, tracy Wilkerson, Rowelly Herrera, Chip Doty, Rick Foy, Ken Killian, Theron Wyasket, Ted Wyasket, Mike Grimbie and Tim Kilough will also be participating on the wrestling squad this year. The Eagles second match of the season will be when they travel to Union on the 30th. On the 24th the Eagles participated in n their first game with North Sanpete. On the 25th an exciting game was played between the Duchesne Eagles and the Union Cougars. After an exciting game with double overtime the Eagles were defeated by a acore of 58 to 60. On Friday and Saturday the Eagles will travel to Rangely for a basketball game. On Thursday the 30lh, MUN will hold their initiation and banquet.
