Show Millard County Rabbits fall short in defending title by Tammie Bean Despite not having a Region Tournament the Delta High Girls Basketball Team played exceptionally well this weekend at the State Tournament The State Tournament was held February 18 19 and 20 at Wasatch High School During league play the Rabbits were undefeated therefore they were seeded number one in Region Ten Millard and Hurricane were seeded numbers two and three respectively Teams seeded first and second from each region were given a bye the first day and games for them began on Thursday Delta byed Wednesday and played San Juan Thursday Delta won with a score of High scorers for the game were Jannette Larson with 28 pts and Shelley Fowles with 22 This win moved Delta up to play Hurricane This game would determine which of these two teams would go on to play in the championship game and which would play for third and fourth places Both teams scored immediately and the game continued with constant scoring at both baskets Early in the fourth quarter Hurricane took the lead and This kept it The Final score was loss dashed all of the Rabbit’s hopes for another State Championship The highest place the Rabbits could achieve now would be third place Meanwhile Morgan nine’s region First place team had lost to Lehi Delta and Morgan had been expected to meet --but for the championship game Now these two teams were going to meet but not in the championship game They would play each other for third and fourth Morgan coached by former Delta coach Liz Wiscombe and Delta were equally matched in most aspects and neither team ever had a lead of more than five points The lead alternated where back and forth until score Delta led by point was The Rabbits came back from halftime fired up and determined to pull away from Morgan Unable to do so all the score remained the way With just a few seconds left Delta’s possession of the ball was taken away because of a travel violation Unable to regain possession before the buzzer Delta lost to Morgan with a score of Shelley Fowles said of the game “1 know we could have done better We would all like the chance to play Morgan again I think the results would be different” At the beginning of the ChampionState team ship Game an Academic-Al- l was chosen Shelley Fowles was named to this team Shelley’s cumulative GPA is 3937 Shelley received a Swimming pool news Did you know that the West Millard Pool has special fun days at the pool each week Monday from 5 to 9 pm is Family Night On this night the entire family can swim together for only $350 Tuesday is Vi Price Night from 5 to 7 pm Instead of paying the full admission price you’ll get in for half of course the pool is still open until 9 pm for open swimming Wednesday is Bring a Friend Night from 5 to 9 pm For each paid admission (or pass) you get to bring one friend in for free Thursday night is just a plain fun regular open swimming night from 5 to 9 pm Friday is Moonlight Swim Night The pool opens at 5 pm but at about 8 pm the overhead lights of the pool area are turned off and the pool lights are left on making the pool glow like it’s fluorescent This makes a real different and fun swimming experience Pool events whih are coming up: On March 26 is the pool’s 9th Saturday birthday From 12 noon to 5 pm there and free will be free swimming refreshments for everyone On Friday at 2 pm the pool will be April holding its annual Easter Dive for Money and Prizes Day for all youth from ages 3 to 16 The Delta Middle School will complete their swimming lesson program on Friday Feb 26 Beginning Monday March 14 through Friday April 8 the Delta North Elementary Schools 3rd and 4th grades will be taking sw lesson Then in April until the end of the school year the Delta South Winter swimming lessons Monday March 7 the seventh session of the West Millard Pool's w inter swim lesson program will begin This session will run Monday through Friday for two weeks with the last class ending on Friday March 18 T oni Harris and her program will continue through May 20 and then the pool’s “Learn to Swim” summer swim lesson program will begin The final winter sessions and the days they will start are Session 7 March 7 Session 8 March 23 Session 9 April 18 and Session 10 May 9 Each swimming session has 10 lessons and the cost is $1500 per student per session and MomBesides Toni's my & Me classes the pool will also be offering in Session 7 a Beginners and an Advanced Beginners class for the school age children and a Boy Scout Swimming Merit Badge Course Monday March 14 the pool will be starting an American Red Cross Advanced Lifesaving Course This course To is offered twice a year at the pool qualify for Advanced Lifesaving a person must be at least 15 years of age a strong swimmer and in good health This 21 hour course is designed to teach a sw immer the knowledge and skills to save himherself and the life of another in an emergency The cost is $3000 which covers the test book all instruction and the use of the pool When a swimmer successfully completes the Advanced Lifesaving Course he she will be certified for three years As far as it is known the American Red Cross is Advanced Lifesaving certification honored at all swimming pools in the United States Lifeguards employed at the West Millard Pool must be a currently certified American Red Cross lifeguard For more information and to register for these swimming courses call the pool at Elementary’s 3rd and 4th grades will be at the pool every afternoon for swimming lessons Some excellent swimmers are being developed from the schools participation in swimming lessons This community is very fortunate to have a school district which realizes the importance of every school age child learning how to swim Pool’s open swim hours to be extended Now that the competitive swimming season is over the West Millard Community Swimming Pool management will be opening the pool right Delta to face their cross county rival in a very key game for the Rabbits The Eagles had already clinched third place in the region standings but Delta had a placing at stake The Rabbits came out in the first quarter with a very aggressive fuU court the whole press which throughout game played a very big role in their success Both teams played evenly for the first quarter but Delta managed a lead by the end of the quarter at In the second quarter Delta’s full court pressure turned in many fast break baskets And when the Rabbits didn’t get the fast break shot they seemed to get the inside shot
