Fern’s where they enjoyed visiting and taking family pictures This was the first time all but one of Myrtle’s father’s grandsons were together Her son Don was ill and couldn’t attend The DUP Old Mill was led by Inez Beeston a letter from President Angie B Green and the minutes were read by Secretary Myrtle Rowley The history “The Mountain Meadows Massacre” was read by Christie Whicker and Finlinson read a song “Oh Ye Mountains High” which was composed in England by Charles W Penrose in the home of her grandfather Charles Swallow Afton also presented the lesson which was the history of Benjamin Thomas Clark taken from the DUP Book February Lesson Refreshments were served by hostesses Allie Hatton and Teen Sistrunk 13 daughters were present The funeral of Edwin Imer Christensen was held in Fillmore at the LDS Stake Center Feb 17 1988 He died Feb 13 1988 at the age of 91 He was born and raised in Oasis a gentle and loving person who loved all things He was a loving and obedient son and a devoted and loving husband to his wife Celia They owned and operated a farm in Oasis until their retirement years when in 1976 they built a home in Fillmore where they settled down and continued their lives Many friends and relatives came from near and far to attend Edwin’s funeral and pay their last respects to one who they held most dear Among them were: Mrs Ella Christensen Oasis William H (Bill) Bishop Funeral services for William H (Bill) Bishop age 66 were held Thursday Feb 18 1988 at the Delta 5th Ward Chapel He died Feb 15 at the Delta Hospital of cancer He is survived by his wife Merilyn Starley of Delta sons Wm Ken Richfield Jack S Cedar City daughter Beverlee Nelson brothers Hawaii 6 grandchildren Wm Van Delta Frank Santee CA Neil Cedar City sisters Ella Oasis Neva Memmott Christensen Mt Pleasant Bishop Bart Simmons conducted the services and Van Bishop brother gave Deloris Meyers the family prayer played the prelude and postlude music Frank Bishop brother gave the vocation Verla Jenson Sharon Clark and Choral Clark sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Going Home” accompanied by Deloris Meyers They also sang a medley of Bill’s favorite songs accompanied by Glena Moody Thorpe Waddingham and W Ken Bishop son spoke Cherie Morris gave Benediction was by Neil a tribute Jack Bishop son Bishop brother dedicated the grave Interment was in the Delta City Cemetery Military rites were by the American Legion Post 135 Pallbearers were Sam Bishop Kent Bishop Ryan Bishop Jim Christensen Vance Bishop and Jerry Huff were Don pallbearers Honorary Scott Memmott Darrell Morris Bishop Dase Haw ks Douglas Bishop and Rod Staples e Nona Call Tomkinson age 81 died Feb 18 1988 in the Fillmore Hospital She was born Feb 17 1907 in Riverside ID to Albert Vincent and Hannah Lucretia Tolman Call She married Melville A Tomkinson June 4 1924 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple He died Oct 30 1985 She served as an officer and teacher in all organizations of the LDS Church She was twice president of the Relief Society served two stake missions and was an oralong with her husband dinance worker in the Manti Temple She also served on the Fillmore Hospital Board and was a president and member of the Crystal Springs DUP and she was a friend to all Nona is survived by five sons Roy Howard Salt Lake City Fillmore Max Aurora CO Don Flowell and Fred Rockland ID 28 of St George stopped for a Valentine visit with Nada Jeffery is the manager of the Skaggs Alpha Beta store in Orem He arrived in St George in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day and his birthday with his parents Gail and Sue Smith of Lubbock TX came to Fillmore on Feb 13 to spend a week with Gail’s parents Jim and June Smith Also coming from Bloomington on the same day were LaVey and Madelene Smith who spent Saturday visiting with the Smith family Myrtle Rowley reports the death of Pearl Hunter who was the wife of her brother Sheldon Hunter She died in St George and was taken to Idaho Falls for burial On Tues Feb 9 Myrtle and Sheldon drove to the home of their sister Fern Hampton in Shelly ID where they stayed until the funeral on Feb 13 George and his son Fred Rowley drove to Robert Nielson to Oasis Cemetery for the burial Velma Jackson spent Valentine’s Day enjoying the company of members of her family Her son Stephen his wife Pat Jackson of Sandy and their three children Cathy Kimberly and Jason came the evening of Feb 12 and Velma’s Sunday through stayed grandson Jeff Duncan his wife Beth and their four children including a 3 month old son who was seeing his great for the first time This grandmother made a special Valentine treat for Velma Jeff and his family live in is at Thiokol and He employed Logan Beth is a registered nurse presently employed at the Logan Hospital More Valentine surprises included a Sunday visit with Velma’s son Joe and wife Sherry Jackson who stopped in on their way home from a business trip to Salt Lake City bringing a beautiful potted flower and lots of happy valentine wishes Joe and Sherry’s son Bary stayed in Salt Lake to do some shopping for things he will need on his mission He will enter the MTC in Provo in May where he will study the Portuguese language to prepare for a mission in Brazil His farewell will be in May on Mother’s Day in Cedar City and he will leave on his mission in July Lucille Ricker went to Yuma AZ on Jan 22 with her daughter Pat and her husband Floyd Teeples of Delta to spend a month in the sun There was lots of sun alright but also a cold sharp wind that blew most of the time making coats and other warm clothing a necessity They visited with Lucille’s other daughter and her husband Clara Mae and Clyde Shaver who spend their winters in Yuma In spite of the cold winds the families enjoyed tours of Mexico Arizona where they panned for gold and Lucille found two gold nuggets Bullhead City on the Arizona side of the Colorado River and a new city which is quickly growing into a busy Norma Thatcher’s mother Ruth Hazel Hunsaker in Arizona passed Norma and husaway on Tuesday band Hazel and husband will be going to Arizona on Friday We send our deepest sympathy to the Thatcher family for their loss and sorrow Kay and Colonel Merrill Nielson from Burke VA are here visiting with mother Mary Henrie They came for the funeral of their Carol Ann Nielson who died last week Colonel Nielson has retired and he and his wife work in the Washington DC Temple They plan to make their home in Utah within the next two years The Nielson’s son Bruce was graduated from Harvard University last spring and is working with a law firm in Washington DC They have three boys and one girl Mary Henrie was enjoying the visit of the Nielsons and loved the of Kay with helping on the quilt she was making to the Brodericks Congratulations for their new little baby who came to them just recently The little son of Kay and Jeanette We Fitzgerald has been hospitalized hope he is on the improve and will soon be home Tenna Johnson returned a few days ago from the hospital where she had surgery She is on the improve now and glad to be home We are glad too Max and Laurel Johnson spent last weekend in St George where they attended the blessing of the granddaughter of Kathy and Kent Freeman and the first great granddaughter of Max Max stood in with the Bishopric and the father and grandfather for the blessing Jim and David Walker hauled a semi load of hay out to Ibapah last week It took them 12 hours to make the trip They had to go by way of Wendover and had to unload the hay by hand To unload a semi load of hay by hand runs into a lot of work and time Roger and Erma Walker made a trip to Moab last week for the USDS They stayed for 3 days and even though KANOSH Dathel Whitaker Ph Sally board her plane for Mesa Arizona where she was guest of another daughter Judy Young and family Following a visit ther she flew to San Antonio Texas where she enjoyed a stay with daughter Mary Olson husband Tom and family and enjoyed the nice glad that she missed all the Kanosh snow Glen and Lilly Whitaker returned home Sat Feb 20 having been away for twelve days They spent three days in Fallon Nevada where they visited John and Mike Whitaker and families Roger and Elaine Sorensen and other They reported to family members Willard and Dathel that John’s and Shelly’s new home is coming right along They will surely appreciate more room for their growing family CA Glen and Lilly In Sacramento visited close friends Miles and Harris families who lived in Eureka Nevada when they did which is in the At Elk Grove Sacramento area they had a short visit with Bishbp Sterling George and family Then on to Chehalis Washington where they were guests of the Larson of their family who are daughter Denise Christian Denise and four children are in Hawaii where he is in the service Glen and Lilly attended church with the Larsons They also attended a Tem- it was somewhat foggy they enjoyed their trip Vern and Grace Fowles have returned to their home in Sutherland from their home in Springdale They expect to stay for a few weeks The said it was hard to leave 50 degree weather to come to minus
