Show GRADE SCHOOL, CLASS PUBLISHES STUDENT POETRY" BOOKLET ' "Ycung Voices" is a booklet of poetry published last week at the Milford Elementary school. It contains 48 poems written by the boys and girls in the sixth grade class taught by Curn C. Harvey. The booklet cons;sts of eight pages, and covers which pupils have decorated in an attractive way in their art class. Poems written by pupils cover cov-er a wide variety of subjects. There are poems about the activities ac-tivities of the class such as working on The Milford Siren, the Junior Band, basketball, the citizenship project sponsored by , the class, the ship (USS Lyman , K. Swenson) which the class has "adopted," the attractive bulletin board the class has prepared, pre-pared, and many others There are poems about hobbies hob-bies and pets of pupils, holidays such as Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine Val-entine Day, and St. Patrick's Day. There are poems which reflect Milford local color such as the local cemetery, a familiar famil-iar house which legend says is haunted, about LeBaron Meadows, Mead-ows, Puffer's Lake, Baldy, local and state hi.-tory. One of the favorite topics of the boys and girls was Spring. Seme poems showed the spirit of adventure, such as "A Ride in a Jet." Some had a romantic -liiality such as the one titled "Girl in the Rain," and "Spring Goes Shopping." There were poems about the sky, the des- it, tlie sea, climbing a moun-ain, moun-ain, and other topics worthy cf a Byron, Keats, or Shelley. All the poems may not - be perfect in form, but neither weie the poems written by Carl Sandburgh, Walt Whitman, and tliers, if we are to believe the I books wo lead about them. But I the elas-; had a lot of fun writing writ-ing them, and at the same time learned a lot about poetry. |
