BY PAT DIX BOBCAT BOYS END REGION SEASON WITH A BANG Tuesday's game at Milford can only be characterized as a "roundball massacre." Of the 13 players on the Panguitch squad 9 were able to make it into the scoring column, as Coach Barney cleared his bench in the 90 to 35 rout of the Tigers. Josh Bateman led all scorers with 26 points, while Cameron Leach racked up 22 to go with his 19 rebounds and Brady Barney double figured again with 20. The regular season finale at Wayne Thursday saw Cameron Leach have the dream game of his career. Because of early foul woes he only played a total of 25 minutes; time enough to hit 9 of 10 from the field and 10 of 11 from the charity stripe, for a 28 point total. Brady Barney was in double figures again with 12, Freshman Eric Frandsen had 8, and Trac Norris 7. End Result-Panguitch 61 - Wayne 42. Thursday, February 22, the Region 15 tournament opens in the "Black Hole of Calcutta" at Cedar High school. Panguitch plays at 7:30 PM. LADY BOBCATS CLOSE SEASON ON HIGH NOTE In order to qualify for the State Tournament at Richfield, the the Region 15 fifth seed Lady Bobcats, were forced onto a play-in game at Tintic, February 12. It was a mismatch from the opening tip-off as the Cats forged a 14 to 2 first quarter lead and never looked back, on the way to a 59 to 21 "walk-over." Nine Bobcats made the scoring column, with Krystal Taylor and Hailey Orton leading the way with 14 points each and Lacy Rosser chipping in 10. However, the opening contest of the State Tourney against Rich, was a different story, as a very talented Rebels squad held the Cats scoreless in the first quarter enroute to a 64 to 37 pasting. The Rebs went on to lose to Tabiona in the Championship game by one point. Hailey and Krystal once more led Panguitch with 24 and 11 points respectively. The outlook was pretty bleak going into Thursday's game with a talented Bryce Valley team that had defeated the Cats twice already, but Panguitch played one of it's better games of the season to cop a 46 to 39 win. Hailey once more led with 18, Lacy Rosser with 8, Kelsie Barton and Krystal Taylor with 6 , and Beth Walter and Chelsea Barney with 4 each. Kelsie Barton also led the team with 7 rebounds. Next was Piute, who had also bested the Cats twice this season, but once again balanced scoring and rebounding resulted in a 48 to 28 victory and a shot at the Consolation Crown. Leading all scorers with 21 points, was Hailey, followed by Krystal's 14, Beth Walter's 6 and 6 rebounds, and Kelsie Barton's 4. In the Consolation Championship game with ICS, things got a little tighter and resulted in a low scoring affair. Knotted 12 all at the half and the cats down by 2 after three quarters, Bobcats fans were starting to get that queasy feeling in the pit of their stomach's, but then Hailey Orton took over, scoring 7 of her 17 point total. Kelsie Barton hit two crucial free throws, to go with her 8 boards and the Lady Cats outscored the Lady Eagles 14 to 5, to seal the 31 to 24 victory and garner 6th place in State. Krystal Taylorfiredin 8 points, Beth Walter 2, Kelsie Barton 3, and Chelsea Barney 1. Hailey Orton's Tournament total was, 80 points and 22 rebounds. The Lady Bobcats closed out the season with a 17 and 19 record.
