Show A 8 4U The Visgna TiimVWest Valkjr Ntwi, September 5, 2002 mma Lifestyles Pies, pop and prizes in fun fair contests In the tradition of the country fairs of yesterday, the Utah State Fair will host a variety of contests each day of the fair from pie eating contests to diaper derbys. Most of the contests are open to the first five contestants in each age group who register for the contest on the day each contest is held, (except where noted.) Prizes will be supplied by sponsors of each contest in addition tp ribbons being awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each age group. : Registration begins at 6 p.m. with contests beginning at 6:30 p.m. There is no cost to participate in the contests. Each contest will be held on the Meadow Gold Family Fun Floor of the Grand Building at the Utah State Fair Park. Contests include: 5: Greenbacks Sept Hula Hoop Contest kneel with their hands behind their backs. Hands may not be used. Each contest has 30 seconds to eat as much pie as they can. Pie must be eaten. What is on your clothes, floor or table does not count Sept 8: Great Clips Cra.y Hair Contest Cow Race Age groups: age 4 and under; age 5 - 6; age 7 - 8; Contestants will age ride a toy cow through an obstacle course. Sept 7: Frontier Pies 1. Open to the first 10 contestants in each age group: age 5 - 7; age 8 - 10; age 11 14 - 16; age 17 and age Age groups: age 5 - 7; age 8 - 10; age 11 - 13; age 14- - 16; age 17 and older. Contestants must stand or PEPSI POP: Ballon Popping Contest Open to the first 12 contestants age 0; 11-1- 3; 11-1- Contestants must 3. pop three balloons by sitting on them to win. Contestants must begin by standing in front of their chairs with one balloon in hand. The first three contestants to break all three balloons win. SLAM THE DEW: Mt. Dew Drinking Contest. Open to the first 12 contestants age 14 and older. Bottles will be open before beginning contest. Mt Dew must be consumed. First three contestants to drink the most Mt. Dew in 30 seconds Challenges KID S BEST MUG: Funny Face Contest. Open to the first 12 contestants age 5 - 7. Winner w ill be chosen by audience Sept 11: Drypers Diaper Derby Open to babies in diapers months. Open to age 4 the first seven contestants in each category: a) crawlers b) walkers. Contestants will Kracker Stacking Contest applause. Age groups: age age age 14 - 16; age 17 and older. Contestants will be disqualified for: a) touching the sticks with any part of their body or clothing b) touching the floor (stage) with their hands. Sept 13: Pepsi Contest e ants age 8 - lO.Winner will be chosen by audience Chuck-A-Kam- Open to all ages and for the first 10 pairs of contestants to register. Contestants will be judged on the following criteria: looks, mannerisms, complexion, hair, eyes and general appearance. Time limit: 5 minutes. Sept 9: Keebier applause. SLICE OF SLAPSTICK: Best Joke Contest. Open to the first 2 contest 1 wins. Sept 14: Hunt 6:30 4-- H Scavenger 7:30 pm Do you know what foods wildlife eat? Can you identify parts of a computer? Pick up a question sheet from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. p Display tables will be for each category such as Wildlife, Consumer Decision Making and Computers. Fill in your answers. All sheets must be turned in by 7:30 - set-u- p.m. The persongroup with the most correct answers wins. Sept 15: Meadow Gold Sandwich Eating Contest Age groups: age 5 - 7; age 8 - 10; age 11 - 13; age 14 - 16; age 17 and older. The two exhibits are "Folk Masters" and "The Utah Story: A World Within A State." The Utah Arts Council's Folk Arts Program will present Folk Masters at the State Fair on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 am - 9 pm at the Pioneer Building. Recipients of the Folk Arts Program's Age groups: age 5 - 7; age 8 - 10; age 11 - 13; age 14 - 16; age 17 and older. Hoops must be spun on the waist only. Contestants who keep their hoops going the longest win. Sept 6: Meadow Gold older. Winners are the contestants who stack the most crackers. Crackers must be stacked one on top of another - no pyramid building. Crackers must remain stand- figures, Swedish weaving, rug weaving, bobbin lace, Mexican paper arts, Scottish weaving, saddle making, rawhide braiding, horsehair hitching, classical Indian sitar music, and Mexican music and dance.
