Show SOCIETY By JONI Only a few more weeks 'of school left. And parties and dances are At coming up thick and fast! least therell be a lot during the next few weekr. Caps and gowns are on the way for graduating Sophs and Seniors. The Election Splash held at Veyo was really wonderful. The swimming was nice; the gals looked good in new summer bathing suits. The food was what was so outstanding about the night All the good food so carefully prepared by the Sociability Committee! Dancing was fun, too. Of course the most outstanding part of the evening was the announcement of the Studentbody Officers for 1961-6school year. And boy what a crowd gathered to hear the good news that John Sanders, Marylin Hinton, Ruth Ann Hafen, Karen Faldmo, and Kermlt Butt were to be our new officers. They certainly are a swell group and will give us a great year next year! Congrats gang! The officers will give a party and a dance and an assembly. I hear that the dance will be held on the patio of the Fine Arts Center. The King and I will start its four-darun on the 16th of this month. This is really going to be a show. For weeks now weve been hearing songs and dance music from the show wafted about the halls; now we see costume material and props being carted out to the new Fine Arts Center where the performance will take place. Dont miss the show, itll be great! Delta Psi Omega, drama club on campus, will hold its annual Spring Awards Banquet, two weeks from Wednesday under the big white pillars at the Fine Arts Center on affair will the patio. The dress-u- p honor all members of the club and members of the play casts. Mem- bers of Theatre Council will pre- sent awards for the best perform-- : ance of the year. Ten new mem-bers will be initiated into the club also. The Dixiana .Spring Invitational sponsored last Friday by the Dix-- 1 iana gals was really a special affair. The dance, decorated to the Forbidden Paradise, theme of was. attended by a large number of guys and gals. Some of the couples attending were: Laurel Webb and Dayne Clark; Irean Thompson and Joe Bowler; Suzanne White and Clark Whitehead; and Marylin Hinton and Walt Winsor. All of the gals really looked nice in their new spring formats. Dixie Barnum wore a white nylon and chiffon dress; Karen Faldmo wore a lavender cotton dress, and Diane Renchler looked lovely in a pink and white dress. At the floorshow Kathy Cluck, Helen Maxwell, and Linda Cling er were presented with silver bracelets by the Dorm Council. Karen Faldmo led a group of reluctant guys in a hula. Pat Robinson accompanied. Graduation is coming up and soon well be lazing in the summer sun. Lets support our new officers in their activities that are coining up soon. 2 y DIXIE SUN T II E May 12, 1961 Club Corner Shorthand-Typin- g Delta Psi Chooses Next Year's Officers Teams Yin Awards Elected to head the Delta Psi Omega were Kay Bruhn, President; Atkin Pace, Vice President; and Merrilee Holt, Secretary. Elections were held Wednesday, May 3, at the home of President oan Esplin. Miss Bruhn, daughter of President and Mrs. Arthur F. Bruhn, is a member of the Theatre Council and is currently working on designs for King and I costumes. Atkin Pace, a junior class commissioner of amusements and a member of the assembly committee, wrote the winning competitive assembly script. Miss Holt, who will be a Freshman next year, was the .cad in the fall quarter play, Dial M for Murder. Ten new members have been approved for initiation into the drama forty-memb- er club. An Iranian meal of rice, chicken meatballs, deep fried egg him, Ec Club plant, green salad and lemonade delighted members and guests. The club spent April 21 and 22 at B. Y. U. for the annual U. H. E. A. convention. While there they learned of advancements in adolescent behavior, textiles, and Lambda Delt Plans Spring Formal May 20 is the date set for the Lambda Delta Sigma Spring Formal, reports chairman John Sanders. New this year, the Spring Formal is open to Lambda Delta Sigma and their dates only. The goal of Dorm Invitational Lauded by Coeds By SANDRA BYBEE was the Forbidden Paradise .heme of the invitational sponsored by the Dixiana girls May 5. Invita-aun- s were issued to many couples oucside of ihe dorm. Living room decorations featured blue draped cheese cloth with stars. On the patio a red rose bush climbed up oie wall while blue lights shone from the top. Couples were served lemon slush and French pastry in the lounge. Music was furnished by Gerald Olsens Combo. A program featuring Karen Faldo as an Hawaiian Hula dancer, accompanied by Pat Robinson on her ukelele, was enjoyed by the couples. Awards were presented to three outstanding girls, voted in by the dorm. They were: Most fun: Kathy McCulloch Most friendly: Helen Maxwell. Outstanding contribution to dorm life: Linda Clinger. General chairman for the event was Linda Clinger. Assisting her was Dixie Heaton, in charge of decorations, and Marilyn Anderson, coordinating refreshments. "King and I" activities. the club is to have every member at the dance. Officers for next year have been elected and are in charge of all the remaining activities for the year. Heading Lambda Delta Sigma for the girls chapter next year will be Margaret Fawson, who reigned as Sweetheart this year. Other officers include Nancy Jackson, Vice President; Bonita Hughes, Freasurer; and Ruth Hoyt, Secretary. Officers for the boys chapter are Ken Black, President; Larry Shurtliff, Secretary; and Milton Harvey, Treasurer. New Lambda Delta Sigma officers are now planning a closing social for all members on Thursday, May 25 at the City Park. Box lunches prepared by the girls will be the highlight of the evening, reports chairman Margaret Fawson, girls chapter president for next year. Each boy will be surprised by a lunch prepared by one of the girls.
