A lively time at the K G W depot WAS DOWN brown tried ills ur carington Carig ton on a train our police officers had quite a lively skirmish last night with about half a dozen knights of the road our town of late has been infested with a great number of these men and it was about last evening that a number of them in the vicinity of the B G W depot became loaded with white eye and began to raise havoc about that place by breaking the depot window lights fighting and otherwise creating a great disturbance tur bance john snyder the night watchman at the station was compelled to floor two or throe of them and by the aid of several citizens got the hobos in the waiting room and locked the doors to hold them until officers arrived pending the arrival of the officers the tramps had become very enraged they tore off the bars of the windows poked out window lights and shamefully abused and threatened the operator but they were kept safely in room when word reached the officers sheriff brown marshal knight and policeman mcewan repaired to the depot upon their appearance in the waiting room the hobos were still mad and showed resistance the whole crowd were at once handcuffed and started up town As soon as they reached the street one of the tramps in some way slipped off hia handcuffs and attacked sheriff brown striking the sheriff in the breast several times one blow from the arm of the heavyweight heavy weight sheriff and tho tramp waa stretched flat on the ground the gang was too much for the three officers but by the aid of david beebe geo A dusenburry Dusenb crry dick aley and agent john taylor they were safely lodged in jail but not before the officers had exerted themselves very much to subdue the toughs the men locked up last night are really tough characters having before on several occasions been inmates of our city jail they recognized all the officers as soon as they made their appearance pe arance at the depot As a result of the difficulty sheriff brown has bruises on his right hand received from striking the tramp the quicker our city gets rid of these kind of citizens the better it will be for the community the grand jury has been investigating the matter
