Show george H crosby called by rf reaper aper well known lawyer writer and publisher lisher succumbs Succumb sto to operation in salt lake hospital al 11 0 ek 7 in the passing of G e U UP H crosby jr in a salt lake hospi tal last week the editor of this paper lost one of his oldest and dearest friends george crosby and this writer were born in the same small town and our fathers were bosom friends before either of us were born at the time of our birth both were members of the local L D S bishopric later they both moved to leeds washington on county where the they y were again associated in a like capacity their families grew up together we were schoolmates playmates and staunch friends from that time on our paths have frequently crossed FO for r ral years year we were both neler ne vier men and regularly each a n e r aie pers periodically we exchanged visits and spent long hours reviewing boyhood events and tracing the lives of former friends and associates who had bad scattered broad abroad a or had passed on to the other shore george was possessed of an extraordinary tra ordinary memory and had a faculty of keeping track of all his old friends frends and associates he was a man of the highest character and aspirations As a lawyer he had a profound knowledge of the law and as superior judge of apache county arizona his record was noteworthy for the few if any reversals by the supreme court we last saw george about a year and a half ago when he be rode from his home in evanston wyoming to salt lake city in the writers car and we enjoyed a visit at our home there was never a dull moment when george crosby was about and we shall miss him and his wholesome influence from this sphere of action his demise is not only a severe ilow blow to his f family amily but also to a host lost of friends and associates george H crosby jr a former editor of the richfield reaper died tuesday in a salt lake hos pital following an operation mr crosby a brother in law of mr and mrs M C nelson of richfield lived in richfield a number of years from richfield i id ca he moved to apache coun count t Spy ae J zona to practice law and t irence c ce to graham county where he was district attorney for several years later he returned to apache county to fill the position of judge of the superior court a position he held for several years from arizona he moved to wyoming and had practiced law there up to the time of his demise born february 29 1872 in the now defunct town of hebron utah mr crosby was a son of george H and sarah brown crosby he had been a high priest of the L D S church since 1910 mr crosby had an unusual memory for dates and happenings of historical interest fawks Few KS be more exact in re counti dents in the settlement off tah and arizona As a result he was consulted very often by various writers of western history espeer aspeci turn to page 13 coluni column five GEORGE H CROSBY CALLED BY REAPER continued from page four ally of utah and arizona he wrote considerably on western settlement several articles being published in the salt lake tribune surviving mr crosby are his widow mrs martha J miller crosby of basin wyoming twin daughters mrs laprele nunnery of new york city and mrs lucile scott of washington D C and seven grand children survive him besides a sister and three brothers in arizona mr and mrs M C nelson and H P miller of venice went to salt lake wednesday morning where they expected to meet mrs crosby who left evanston tuesday night to make funeral arrangements range ments mr Cros bys death came unexpectedly he had entered the hospital only a few days ago and his wife had received word his condition was satisfactory only a short time before his death |
