In fact, so far as wo aro ablo to learn Smithfield is tho only town which has ontored the contest from this county. Others are. plan nlng to enter, however. It is Just two weeks since the mayor may-or of Smithfield formally entered his town In tho contest, but a remarkable remark-able amount of good work has al ready been done. A wook ago the city had" Dr. Titus up from the Agricultural Collego to mako a survey. Refore Inviting Dr. Titus, a commlttoo of citizens had already made a preliminary1 survey, so that when ho camo they were able to place la his hands a map of the town showing tho exact condltton of every lot. Dr. Titus was mot by an aijtomobllo which took him through every street, stopping for Inspection of promises. After completing tho survey, the Doctor was able to give some very valuable advice and make suggestions which will aid Smithfield to win the $300 prize and tho satisfaction satis-faction that goes with It. The survey, however, was merely, preliminary. Neither tho officials nor the people wero .ready to let the matter rest there.
