The cost would be minimal and most residents would not be materially affected, they argue. "When we obtain information that indicates we have a hazard that our building codes don't adequately address, we have a moral obligation to act even if it costs a little more," said Carl Eriksson, chairman of a state advisory committee that recommended the change. Opponents say the evidence is wrong and the existing codes are adequate. They also say a change would have a huge impact on construction costs and devalue every property on the Wasatch Front. The council was concerned that this decision was, in reality, the first step to UVCC's conversion instead of "just a report." University of Utah Student Body President Andy Cooley feared that the recommendation was "a lukewarm compromise that will eventually erode" the wall against the UVCC conversion. Trucking president encourages hard work and safety for success By JOANNE SCHULTHIES Staff writer of The Signpost "Work hard! Work smart!" was the message urged by Jerry Moyes, president of Swift Trucking, as he spoke Thursday afternoon at Weber State University. Moyes presented suggestions on how to become successful in the '90s. He credits much of his success to his father and another key influence in his life. Moyes said his father taught him to work hard, investigate and offer is tempting, but I understand that the kind, appreciative, generous people here are giving me a pay raise really soon. In fact, I'd be willing to stay right where I am for as little as $900 if they raise my pay within this week. You are going to have to try harder than that ftut not much harder) to lure me away from these wonderful people. DEAR PAPERBOY: I'm falling behind in my microbiology class because my professor and his wife apparently get together on weekends, and for recreation, write scores of pointless homework assignments while inhaling an un "Almost everyone's intuition suspects that our area and the California area do not have the same seismicity level," said Ogden architect Thair H. Blackburn, who called the move to upgrade the zone a "stampede." WSU's maintenance building and stores and receiving building are constructed on the Wasatch Fault, which runs along the Wasatch Front. The Wasatch Front currently has a Zone 3 classification, which is higher than most of the country but lower than the Zone 4 of the worst quake-threatened areas of California, Alaska and Yellowstone National Park. The proposal to change the : Atuanya presented House Bill 77 titled Marriage of Minors to the Utah Legislature on January 17th when Davis was unavailable. The bill requires 14 and 15-year-old minors to visit a juvenile judge to determine if the marriage was voluntary before giving consent or issuance of a marriage license. Atuanya was originally chosen as an intern in Washington D.C., but problems were encountered because he is not a United States citizen and the details could Council members agreed they were not making a statement against the commissioner's recommendation, but instead they were against what it implied. The presidents agreed the action by the regents would most likely stop any resolutions that might have been proposed by Utah Valley legislators during this session. With this in mind, student lobbyists will instead be focusing on their top two priorities, which include urgent student support needs and a library bond. The plan overachieve. He also learned valu-able marketing and distribution - techniques from this other person. Moyes said he wants to become a major carrier of the 90s. His future objectives are to build a "niche" as a truckload carrier by focusing most of his attention on major customers, and acquiring more carriers to add to his Swift collection. In June 1990, he decided to go public, selling $22 million in shares. He currently runs 1,800 trucks nationwide, resulting in a $235 million business -an 114 growth healthy mixture of nitrous oxide. Eriksson said the study concluded that ground motions from Nephi to Brigham City could be much higher than earlier studies indicated, "high enough to meet the criteria for Zone 4."
