Show Extension Editor Meets Press Men At Round Table Objectives of agricultural extension exten-sion work were outlined before members of the Utah county press Monday afternoon by W. D. Porter, of the Utah State Agricultural college col-lege extension division, and secre tary to Dr. William Peterson, director direc-tor of th division. It was pointed out at the meeting, meet-ing, which was held in the agricultural agri-cultural rooms at the city and county building, that the press is the greatest single factor in the promotion of higher ideals and standards of living on the farm. Mr. Porter made an earnest appeal for the cooperation of the press In carrying on the extension work in Utah county. Such cooperation, he declared, is absolutely essential in the promotion of the mental, social, cultural, recreational and commu nity life of rural people. The press can Implant a love of rural life in. farm boys and girls and acquaint the public with the importance of agriculture in our national na-tional life. It Is a great factor in enlarging the vision of rural people and the nation on mutual matters, Mr. Porter explained. Following Mr. Porter's talk an informal discussion on publicity matters were entered into. The feasibility of maintaining a faim news department in the papers of the county was taken up, and publishers pub-lishers expressed a willingness lo continue such a column. Plans or presenting agricultural news more attractively were discussed dis-cussed and the county agents were given an outline on the presentation presenta-tion of news and other publicity by Mr. Porter. |
