Show Utes fall in USU repeat performance boys recovered from their 13 point deficit, 36-23, to put the heat on the Utes. With the score at 40-31 for Utah, Nate Williams took the responsibility upon himself him-self to put his team back in the game. Williams scored nine points in the next three minutes to pull Utah State to within 2 points of the Utes at 46-44 at the half. Evidently the twenty minute halftime break was just what USU needed as it came out the second half fired up. In 49 seconds the Aggies took the lead for the first time in the game at 4847. From that point on the game took on the flavor of a typical Utah-Utah State match with neither team being able to garner a clear-cut advantage. Newlin was all over the court popping in shots from every angle. When he wasn't, Gardner or Mahler were. Unfortunately, at the other end of tire court Marv Roberts and Nate Williams of USU were conducting their own carnival. The lead traded hands several times until with six minutes to go in the game, benchwarmer Ron Hatch added two giving the Aggies a point advantage. USU built up a four point margin at 90-86 and went into the soft stall. With only two minutes on the clock all the Utes could do was foul in hopes of getting the ball. All they got was farther behind. The game ended with Utah State at 102 and Utah at 92. But as uual, the game was by no means a ten pointer. The Aggies have now won the last five meetings meet-ings of the two teams. High scorers for the Utes were Newlin-27, Gardner-24, Mahler-14, and Trail-11. Utah State high scorers included Roberts-30, Williams-30, and Hatch-20. The bright spot of the evening would have to be the Frosh game where the Papooses upended the young Aggies 89-80. Terry Gardner was high man for the Papooses with 22 followed by Doug Kline with 20. Glen Hansen of Utah State stole the show for his team with 35 points.
