When war astride of the land and sea, Poured wrath from a brimming cup; 4- When brave men died and left in be-4- quest One pledge for the great -and the 4- small; Not stars for a few and stripes for the 4- rest, -f But the flag of our country for all! Answer us, truly and plainly, we pray: 4- Was that not its meaning1 in Washing- ton's day? 4- From Washington's day to Jackson's 4- time, 4- From Yorktown to New Orleans, 4- Did any man follow that flag sublime 4- And doubt what the symbol means? 4- Free, self-ruled states, each one as a 4- star 4- Fixed fast in a field of blue, 4- Fenced in by the blood-red stripes of -f war, 4- To preserve them for me and you! 4- Answer us now; do you dare to drag The old faith our of our father's flag? To open a pathway for trade!' Shall we strut through the world and bluster and brag With the dollar-mark stamped on the -4-brave old flag? 4- Nay, haul up the flag raise it high Not yet it its spirit spent! 4- Let it sir.g in the wind and the sky The truth that it always meant! 4- Let it sing of the birthright of man, Of progress that never can lag. -- Let it sing that trade may go whene it 4-can. 4-can. But liberty follows the flag! . Yes, haul up Old Glory but comrades 4- take heed! That no man shall part the old flag 4- from the creed! 4- |
