Show U WYOMING i J j (Correspondence Intermoun-tain Catholic.) Kemmerer, Wyo., "Nov. 23. An event of more than usual interest to Catholics i occurred in this new-born mining town j Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 20 and 21. It . exemplified what western generosity . can accomplish and what a fund of zeal there is in some of our western Catholic Catho-lic populations. A fair was held in Keenan's hall to meet the generous efforts ef-forts put forth by Mr. P. C. Quealy, who has been the prime mover in the construction of the beautiful little stone Catholic church that new graces our iwn. All answered our popular Father j Casey's call with willingness and enlisted en-listed the help of many of our good Protestant fellow citizens. The result j is that we have in two nights cleared over ?S00. We propose to go on beauti- j fying our very creditable church build- ing until it is interiorly as well as ex- j teriorly one of the neatest and prettiest j in this diocese. ' We would mention quite a number of j names that are worthy of praise, but ; must restrict ourselves to a few. On Monday night the most prominent j workers were Miss Maggie Mocler Miss Kate Coleman, little Misses Callahan and James, also little Arthur Callahan. Among the generous givers were the most prominent business men in our town. Tuesday night was as brilliant as the preceding, and it was a spirited contest con-test when Miss Ellen Davis could overcome over-come the popularity and surpass the zeal of Miss Mocler for the diamond ring. Father Casey has thanks treasured treas-ured up for the kindness of his good people. The list of prizes was as follows: fol-lows: The diamond ring for the most popular popu-lar young lady was captured by Miss El1- Davis. Frank Kidd won the silver sil-ver tea service, and the other' prizes were distributed as follows: Doll, Annie An-nie Callahan: folding bed, Mrs. A. L. Bowlby; guitar. W. E. Russell; silver cake basket. Mis. A. E. Beamer; willow wil-low rocker, L. N. Huggins: lamp, Otis Rife; mackintosh, Harry Gesas; sofa pillow, Miss Falen. The dance and supper given each evening were well attended, the music by Coe's orchastra being first class. |
