Show T-t"""' " " Still on Ore Sampling;. Silver City, Tintic, Jan. 30, '74. Editors Herald: The miners of this section have watched with a great deal of interest the newspaper controversy between R. Mackintosh, of the Pioneer Sampling Samp-ling Mill, and J. B. Scott) PresidenL of the Oxford and Geneva'Mine, Little Cottonwood, as to the "salting" of ore Bamples; and think that thus far Scott is ahead. I cannot but sympathize (as I am sure doos the majority of this district) with Mr. Scott in his very laudable desire to unearth frauds in the sampling samp-ling of ores, for there is a strong conviction con-viction that sueh has occurred before, be-fore, and would again had Mr. S. not pursued the course laid down by him, and which succeeded so well. We have not shipped a great deal of ore from thiB district, to your city, for Bale, though we had hoped, with the advent of apring, to have sent a large quantity; but as it ia now, we shall be very careful, for it would be poor consolation, that nRer selecting the ores to be sold.our samplessbould vary by considerable amounts from the amount.we bad bdieved tbey con-tamed. con-tamed. It behooves the miners of the Territory to look well to the , matter, and have the Legislature, if possible, pass somo sLruigeilt bill regulating such works. I hope the miners of the different camps will take this matter up and have it fully ventilated through the press; and also call on Messrs. Mackintosh Mack-intosh and Scott, for any further information in-formation thoy may have at their command; then if thero is chicanery, let it be exposed, for until it is the poor miner who delves in the earth will be unprotected and at the mercy of cormorant, cor-morant, Mlseu, |
