game on March 22 at 7:00 PM 1 he cost will be $100 for students and $300 for adults The game will be held at the Delta High gym and a quilt will be raffled off It is a red and white quilt Tickets will cost $100 or six tickets for $500 The faculty team will be made up of the school principal Mr Simmons the Mr Hartman Librarian Coach Wiscombe Paul Peterson Coach Fowles Mr Taylor Mr Jensen and Coach Rowley The people on the varsity team are Brent Johnson Layne Finlinson Greg Topham Jared Smith Bill Winsor Russ Fowles Russ Rick Callister Keith Stevens Todd Simmons lohnson and Stace Riding Coach I Athletes excell at academics as well In all the excitement before and after the volleyball and basketball state finals the members of both teams were praised for their athletic abilities But something they are equally skilled in and should be given credit for has been overlooked— their academic abilities The basketball team’s starters this year: Layne inhnson Bient Johnson Russell Stevens Greg Topham and Jared Smith have an average cumulative GPA of 37 Many of these athletes hold good grades in solid classes and AP courses besides having leadership positions in the school inhnson is president of the Layne senior class and is the top students of the senior class with a GPA of 3982 is Another senior Brent Johnson the student body president and maintains a 3895 GPA Greg Topham is president of the Club His GPA is 3774 Credit can also be given to their coach Jim Wiscombe He encourages his players to excel on and off the court “If they put forth the effort in school” said starting to happen at the West Millard Community Swimming Pool Besides Family Night on 'A Price Night on Monday nights Tuesday nights Bring a Triend night on Wednesday nights Ladies Only Hour on Thursday nights and Swim Night on Friday Moonlight nights the pool is having a 6th year birMarch 23 thday party on Saturday (free swimming and refreshments for everyone between 12 noon and 5 pm) The pool will also be having a Scuba Experience Night Monday March 23 at 8:30 pm after Family Night and then on Friday April 5 during Easter Vacation Dive for Money and Prizes will be held at 2:00 pm The Delta Torpedoes Swim Team will be traveling to Salt Lake City on April 5 and 6 to compete in the Cottonwood Invitational Swim Meet Tom and Dennis Armstrong Hamilton Delta Torpedoes Swim Team coaches are developing some excellent swimmers and these swimmers are representing West Millard County in a way everyone can be proud of Session 8 of the pool’s winter swim lessons begin Monday April Registrations are now being taken for this session The last winter swim lesson session will stait Monday April 22 The pools “Learn to Swim" summer lesson program will begin Tuesday May 28 the day after Memorial Day for the summer swim Registration lessons will start in May Monday March 25 will be another special night at the West Millard Pool After Family Night the pool will be holding a special Scuba Experience Night starting at 8:30 pm If you’ve always wanted to scuba dive with all the equipment but never had the opportunity Monday night March 25 will be especially for you Register at the pool before that day and you will be able to scuba dive at the pool for only $150 If you wait until Monday night March 25 to register it will cost you $200 Clay Chivers the scuba diving instructor from Scuba Utah in Orem hopes everyone will register early because the last Scuba Experience Night had so much interest that Clay didn't bring Have a fun enough scuba equipment and exciting experience register early and come to Scuba Lxpcricnee Night you will be glad you did We are starting swimming lessons for the 3rd and 4th grades They will go once a week for 8 weeks The students need to bring a towel and swimming suit The school policy is that the swimming suit is to be modest no bikinis or briefs This is to avoid any embarrassundue exment teasing harrassment and to enable Championship about the importance of academics in her athletes She said "It's very important lor them to keep up the grades That’s what they’re in school for Grades should be their number one priority and sports are extra activities” Mrs Wiscombe also stressed that if her students are good in the classroom they are most definitely good on the court Many members of the volleyball team maintain high grades The six starters: Darcy Peacock Kim Haag DeAnn Fowles LeAnn Jamie Wood and Deb Moodv average a 344 GPA Joyce Jackson played with JV and varsity She has a 40 average Jannette Larson had a 3762 Jamie Wood a V733 Kirsten Whatcott a 366 and senior Darcy Peacock kept a 3704 This year Darcy has taken AP English and physics “My future won’t be in my athletic ability” said Layne Finlinson " but in my academic abilities” Skinner Horse Clinic March 9 the Pahvant Saturday Valley Riding Club sponsored a Reining and Pleasure Clinic by the well which known Noel Skinner from actually lasted until about 3:00 Noel worked with the people and their horses on them techniques for a better smoother reining horse Noel’s methods allow the horse to learn and accomplish without physical abuse and allow the rider to better understand how to apply these methods successfully Noel first worked each persons horse himself during which he demonstrated his techniques and in between answered There was a noon lunch questions snacks break Delicious sandwiches and drinks were offered Then is was back to work People rode their horses and watched Noel while individually taught the person how to apply the Noel quickly methods to themself jumped into pleasure again with riding helping with leads and individually lateral bending lessons Swimming how much your experience are officials swayed by fans?
