Pioneers shut out Wyoming If you were late to Lehi's first home game, you probably missed the opening salvo of what turned out to be a major victory for the Pioneers. Field General Scott Price was on the firing line and shot a pass to Lehi's fleet halfback, Tyler Cunningham, who ran into the end zone for the first score of the game. Cunningham had caught the opening kickoff and ran it back to near the 50 yard line to set up the scoring play. Rios kicked the PAT and Lehi led the team from Lyman Wyoming, The Eagles recovered a kickoff, fumble but the Pioneers swamped them on the 20 yard line. A sweep to the right gave Wyoming a first 7-- down. Lehi met the challenge of their next play and stopped another sweep attempt. The Eagles were then penalized on an illegal procedure call. To add insult to injury, the Pioneers recovered a Wyoming fumble and had a first and ten on their 34 yard line. The Eagles Buckley intercepted a Lehi pass which put the ball back on the line. Mike Wilson, who had a great afternoon on defense for Lehi, stopped Giles on a quarterback option run. The Pioneers defense again stopped the Eagles when Price tackled Thomas for no gain and Wyoming had to punt. Cunningham fielded the Eagles punt and scooted back to the 44 yard line. Price kept the ball for 12. After a short run by Cunningham, T yards, and Mike Wilson caught a pass for a first down, but another penalty nullified the gain. All in all, the Pioneers were whistled for nine penalties resulting in 90 lost yards. Lehi's kicking was a big plus in Friday's game, and on the ensuing play, Wyoming's Giles lost a yard after a fine tackle by Jacobsen. An illegal procedure call went gainst the Eagles and after a great tackle by Shane Berry a pass play from Giles to Hallam was good for 13 yards and a first down. The Eagles' Thomas was tackled by Peters, assisted by Berry and Grant. An incomplete pass forced the Wyoming team to punt again. Wyoming tipped the ball right into the arms of Bryce Kolterman, who calmly galloped eight more yards for Lehi. Al down Peters ran for four and a first and then gained three more yards. On the next play, Price couldn't find an open reciever, kept the ball for a three yard gain. Then on a sweep to the right, Price loped into the end zone for Lehi's second score. The kick went wide but Lehi led by just minutes into the game. Lehi's Rios boomed the ball into the end zone and Wyoming had a first and ten on their own 20. Lehi gang tackled Giles, the Eagles quarterback on his keeper try. Wyoming finally managed a first down on an run. The first quarter ended Lehi even though the Eagles were thwarted time after time as they stuck to their running game. Lehi's Cunningham took the punt and dashed to the 25 only to have his run nullified by an illegal block. He again brought the ball back to the 26 13-- 0 Cunningham added to his personal arsenal of fire power by fielding the punt and scooting and weaving 80 yards for another Lehi touchdown. The PAT by Rios was good and Lehi led 20-- with 2:43 to go before halftime. It was the Mike Wilson show on defense as he personally accounted for the next three tackles for Lehi which helped stall Wyoming' agSfn as the half ended 20-- 0 Lehi. .p. Wyoming couldn't generate any more offense in the second half due to some good defense by Peters, Thayn, Smith and Cook.
