Far too often, someone will see a child who is injured, withdrawn or suffering, and will suspect child abuse. This IHC satellite teleconference explores what steps to take and the avenues of help which are recognize when a problem exists, how to intervene when child abuse is suspected, what agencies to turn to for help, current legal recourse for child abuse, and solutions to the problem. A panel of experts will be presenting the teleconference, including Howard A. Davidson, director of the National Legal Resource Center for Child Adand Protection; vocacy Marty Palmer, M.D., medical director of the Child Protection Team at Primary Children's Medical Center; and Gary S. Jensen, M.S.W., Protective Services Specialist for the Division of Family Services of the State of Utah. open. This is a taught by Utah State University Cooperative Extension Service. Classes will start Sept. 22 and continue until Dec. 1. Topics to be discussed include: basic plant soils, fertilizers and science; growing trees and watering; shrubs; vegetable garden; fruit production; control of insects, diseases and weeds; and diagnosing plant problems. The main purpose of the course is to train individuals who can help the Extension Service by answering questions, give gardening talks and help in other ways to give gardening information to the general public. Others who have an interest in sharpening up their gardening skills, whether it be for job improvement or personal use, are also encouraged to enroll in the class.
