B. degree from the school of business at the university uni-versity and studied law for an additional three years to obtain his L.L.B. degree, being admitted admit-ted .to the practice of law in this state in 1927. Upon being admitted to the Uah .bar, Mr. Macfarlane became a member of the firm of Macfarlane Macfar-lane and Conrwall. He was elected elec-ted to the house of representatives representa-tives in November, 1928, and after serving in the 1929 session ses-sion he was named deputy county attorney, holding that position through 1930. During the 1929 session of the legislature Mr. Macfarlane tvas assistant floor leader of the house and ranking Democratic member of the judiciary committee. In 19 32 he was named assistant assist-ant city attorney and handled most of the trial work until October, Octo-ber, 1935, when he resigned to become associate director of the federal housing administration. He held that position until May, 1937, resigning to resume private law practice and is now associated associat-ed with the firm of Critchlow and Critchlow. Mr. Macfarlane was elected to the state senate in November, 19 38, and in his first senate session ses-sion he was named chairman of the judiciary committee, chairman of the senate investigating committee com-mittee and chairman of the com-mitee com-mitee on appointments of the governor. Mr. Macfarlane has been active in Democratic party organization politics for nearly 20 years. He was president of the original Dern for governor club in 1924 and is a former Salt Lake county Democratic chairman and for four years served as secretary of the Democratic state committee. He is a. member of the Sagebrush and Jackson Democratic clubs and the American and Utah state bar, associations. ,Mrtl Macfarlane married Lucie Gayle Langton of Logan, daughter daugh-ter of James A.
