Show For sometime past there have been a few protests regarding the matter that goes to make up the Chronicle The principal objection objection objection tion relates to the Local Department Department Department Depart Depart- ment on account of an insufficient amount amount of space being given to locals Doubtless to the student body it seems an easy thing to alter the present form of the Chronicle and to provide a remedy remedy rem rem- edy dy for the present debilitated ted condition con con- all all that is necessary is for forthe forthe forthe the management to give more space for the locals But here arises a difficulty which doubtless would not suggest itself to the casual student critic Where is this space to come from The Chronicle is limited to a certain num number her of pages for financial reasons t therefore therefore there here fore whatever additional sp space ce is is given to the locals must be taken from other departments Here is is where the difficulty begins What department is to be curtailed The likes and dislikes of the students are so varied that it is to please all 11 ll Some like to read stories and educational matter while others care but little for this and think that we should have nothing but news and funny jokes These latter say that if they desire to read a story or an article on on n education they will not go to the Chronicle but to the masters in in literature and to complete works on ed education cation This may be true in part but we can not help but think that through the columns or our paper we should show not only the frivolities of our daily life but also some of the genuine work being done By this means only can a paper become valuable in portraying college life as it it- itis is and at the same time be in a small degree degree degree de de- gree at least instructive and pleasing But while we do not agree with the extreme views held by some that a college paper should contain no solid material it does seem that the local department should be given more space We shall try to act on the suggestion given us as far as practicable The educational department will be shortened somewhat and through the courtesy of Mr Ames the Etchings will be discontinued discontinued-at at least for th the present This space will be given to the locals and whatever correspondence the students students students stud stud- desire to have published |
